New "Retirement" Comanche
DesertRat1991 replied to JMR 188's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Poly bushings will be stiffer and more durable but may contribute to a slightly harsher ride feel. Plus, they require a little bit of upkeep to keep the squeaks and creaks away. You have to keep them greased. For a retired gentleman such as yourself, who presumably might appreciate a smooth, quiet ride with no upkeep I would recommend the rubber bushings. The spring pads are so cheap that it is worth getting the OEM part. Try either of these links: https://www.moparpartsoverstock.com/p/Jeep_1992_Comanche/ISOLATOR-Upper-Spring--ISOLATOR-Upper/6912750/52000229.html https://www.factorychryslerparts.com/productSearch.aspx?searchTerm=52000229 You might have trouble finding MJ shackles with rubber bushing. The JKS shackles are popular but come with poly bushings. My IRO shackles also came with poly and I have no complaints. -
New "Retirement" Comanche

With that parts list you are just a few dollars short of a complete suspension refresh. Consider adding new sway bar bushings, front axle upper control arm bushings and front coil spring pads. All cheap parts that can improve handling if your old ones are worn and dry rotted. Add new shackles (which should come with new bushings) and that would just about cover all your rubber bits front and rear. And skip that $30 bar bin eliminator kit. If you have access to a vice and some grease you should be able to slide them in easy enough. -
I don't even get the theme...

I researched all kinds of tips and tricks to line up the bolt holes, came across everything from using ratchet straps hooked to the bumper to clamping a 24" pipe wrench to the axle. In the end, this guys advice worked just fine for me:

The license plate lenses seem pretty generic. Your local Autozone or NAPA might have an adequate replacement: http://www.autozone.com/collision-body-parts-and-hardware/license-lamp-lens/dorman-license-lamp-lens/804803_4158_0 The tricky part might be finding the spring clips that hold them in place.

Tough to calculate. For one thing, pretty much anyone into hardcore wheeling probably has larger tires so their odometer is way off.

I betting on a lucky rich guy that likes old Jeeps. Remember the pics of the truck from the other thread? That's not the first time we've seen pics of really nice Jeeps, with Jersey plates, taken at that trucking facility. I remember seeing pictures of TWO really clean Comanches for sale parked side-by-side on that same grassy knoll. I think they were posted in a "Good, Bad, and Rusty" thread a while back.

I could swear I've seen this truck rolling around the Tucson area, but it wasn't finished. All white, 97+ front with cherokee tails. Different wheels and no bumpers. How's the fit on those tail lights? How are they mounted?

Might be a good idea to throw a shield around that hot air intake.

HITCH PLATES!
DesertRat1991 replied to krustyballer16's topic in Vendors- members making products for MJs
Just got a chance to slide under the rear end and take a second look. Some observations, first I think mikekaz1's upper shackle eye bolt may be inserted backwards. Or, at least the FSM has that bolt inserted from the outside of the frame rail with the nut on the inside. I laid a straight edge across the hump in the bumper bracket and measured the gap between straight edge and the shackle bracket. The gap seems unavoidable. It measured 5/16". The torque on that bolt is 65ft/lbs. Shimming that space seems like a real good idea. -

Krusty, What was the resolution to this issue? Is this a problem that only affects SWB trucks? Do you include a spacer for the shackle bolt? -
2.5L or 4.0L? Bigger is heavier and slower. Kind of seems like you are putting looks ahead of performance and utility which isn't usually a good idea. With a 2wd truck go with the smallest tire that will meet your needs. 30x9.5, 265/70R15, and 31x10.5 will all look great on 3" lift and be more tolerable on stock gearing.

Hey, somebody filmed your rig and put it on youtube! Looking good man!

NEW Production Comanche Enamel Pins and Patches!
DesertRat1991 replied to acerocknroll's topic in The Pub
I know this was a gag, but I actually like this layout best. Better than the ones where "Comanche" is obscured by the truck. -
First things first... A/C or Non-A/C?

Is that truss work OEM?? -
I have an Android app called "Photo Resizer" made by Xllusion that works well.

What do you mean? Do they make a pressure bleeder adapter that fits this thing??

Wow. I thought the Takeover got cancelled because the link went dead ages ago. I googled it a few weeks back and nothing came up. Looks like you guys had fun! How many MJs showed up?? And can you tell us where that cliff pic was taken? That's a great shot!
