leaf spring woes - help needed

Snap a picture of the shackles you took off the truck as well. -
What should I get - parts MJ?
DesertRat1991 replied to 87MJTIM's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Grab shackles and leaf spring plates. Someone in the rust belt will need a set. Out of curiosity, what would you guys say is a good price to pay a U-pull yard for a tail gate? -

The link below was a pretty good write-up until about a week ago when Photobucket disabled 3rd party hosting. You can still see the pics you just have to open each in a new tab: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/how-i-just-put-new-floorpans-patched-holes-xj-lots-pics-372669/ -

Awesome truck! Congrats!! -
What's your beef with the BFG A/T? The KO2 is a fine tire in the wet and capable enough for light mud use, and comes in the size you want. There were complaints years ago about the KO being kind of squirrelly in wet conditions but the KO2 seems to deliver improved performance in that area and is snowflake rated. I ran the KO for years and had no problems in the rain or snow back east, but opted for Grabbers this time around. I would have no issue running the new KO2s. You're also probably aware that moving down to 31x10.5 would open up a huge range of options for you. What difference does 1" less GC make for a truck that will mostly see pavement use, and won't do any mudding serious enough to actually need mud tires? My best advice would be to drop down to 31x10.5 and get the best wet weather AT you can find since that seems to be your main concern.

Broken Shock Mount -- Options?
DesertRat1991 replied to DesertRat1991's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks guys. Maybe I'll try ordering that Dorman part and seeing if I can find a shop to weld it up. I would prefer to keep as much of that smooth shank as possible since that's bearing all the load. My only other idea would be to dremel loose that weld and put the air hammer to that nub. Assuming it's some sort of rod connected to the shock mount, that might punch it out of the socket. Or is that a crazy idea? Don't suppose anyone has cut into that section of the frame rail before that could confirm how that shock mount is fitted to the frame?- 6 replies

Well, needless to say my rear shock install didn't go as planned. The upper rear shock mount threads snapped clean off. How screwed am I? Any ideas on how I can fix this or replace the mount? It looks like some kind of rod passes through a tube in the frame rail and is welded into the wheel well. Does this assembly have a part number?

Test the Throttle Position Sensor. You may have disconnected or damaged it while messing around with the throttle body. http://comancheclub.com/topic/11634-renix-throttle-position-sensor-tps-testing-adjustment/ -

Best complete lift kit
DesertRat1991 replied to SIERRA051's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just went through this. MJ specific kits are hard to find but I researched 3" XJ kits from Zone, BDS, Rusty's, Rough Country, Rubicon Express, Skyjacker and Iron Rock Off Road. I could not find a more complete kit for the money than the IRO XJ 3" Premium Lift Kit which included adjustable UCA/LCA, double shear track bar, shackles, and Bilstein shocks. If you call them, IRO will delete the XJ leafs from your order so you can source your own. Then they knocked another 10% off during their Memorial Day sale and I had to jump. All the parts are here and they look great. Haven't had a chance to install yet. -

Congrats to DirtyComanche! With a truck that isn't afraid to flash some Krylon, why not color match the topper too? -
Adding A/C to my truck is on my list of dream mods. A DIY write-up would be AWESOME!

Welcome! Nice truck. That graphics package doesn't look OEM. Looks like Grand Daddy had a sense of style! -
What do you do with your canopy/topper when it's off?
DesertRat1991 replied to DirtyComanche's topic in The Pub
I haven't found a really good solution yet. I remember back from my BMW modding days that they used to make a wheeled vertical stand for the convertible hard tops. I'm thinking about trying to adapt something like this to work for the truck cap. -
1986 Comanche X Diesel, NJ, $5900 ask
DesertRat1991 replied to NHMJXJ's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
The one near Phoenix has been updated with pics. Asking $5500: https://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/cto/6100979955.html How often do you see 2 diesel MJs for sale at the same time? It would be nice to see at least one of these go to a CC member. -
1998 Comanche w/ 31k on the odo. It would interesting to get a peak at the VIN. Is it a chopped up Cherokee? Or a stretched Comanche??
