since you're building around a sensible sized tire I'd wager you'll be fine with a dana 30 with the later model upgrade ujoints/shafts. the rear axle takes the majority of the abuse. I'd go with either an Explorer 8.8 or a Liberty 8.25. both diffs can handle v8s.

yes, tiny spindly axles do have better ground clearance. not exactly a ringing endorsement though.

it's worth every penny. it'll put a huge smile on your face each and every time you punch the gas. just don't regear a dana 35. invest your cash in an axle that will last.

the gasket is rolled up in a flat box and appears to be just a literal flat gasket rather than the trim piece that comes with the stock MJ window.

just picked up a NOS aftermarket window (C.R.Laurence). as much as I wish it was OEM, it's still pretty dang sweet.

pretty sure I've only seen 2 of the gold colored ones in 20 years of being online in the MJ world. and yes, one of them sits on my desk (bought rather than earned, I'm old but not quite that old)

one minor potential issue has popped up. in the flood of threads with new posts concerning the selling dealership, I'll never find any new ones that still need the build sheet cleaned up. so if anyone sees someone post up a new VIN, please let me know.

I would never rebuild a nasty axle. even if all I needed was a dana 30 I'd just go get a cleaner one to build. how big of a tire are you looking to run?
