1000 buys a lot of oil. as long as you can stay ahead of it, it can leak for decades and you'll be ahead of the game. My PT Cruiser leaks oil, antifreeze and r-134. eventually I'll fix it all, but I'm in no hurry because I simply keep it topped off each week

1975 Brutally Simple Daily Driver

now why would you go and do a thing like that? -
new sockets are available. I would get a hold of the wiring diagram and start from scratch with proper connections and shrinkwrap. heck, I've even replaced the bid connection under the truck with new. the old stuff just kinda sucks. I prefer the low-temp solder connections (which has its own heat shrink) and put a layer of regular heat shrink over top of it for durability.

Is this an old suspension lift?
Pete M replied to emosun's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
those are factory with an AAL. theoretically you can clamp them back together. but it's a temporary thing at best. -

also, also, that main leaf is INCREDIBLY tired. note that it doesn't follow the AAL's curve at all. -

there's an AAL snuck in there below the main leaf -
I got the number from Key Parts who got it from the government. I guess it couldn't hurt if you asked them if they ever got an updated number

finally freed the tank. found the vent tubes crushed from whomever last installed it. no surprise there. what was a surprise was the extra float wedged inside the slosh pan. the straps and J bolts will be replaced, but I think the tank might be salvageable with some cleaning and paint. pump looks good too. the fill hose is very soft so I'll dig up a spare for it.

if you're ever in the atlanta area, I've got a spare back with headrests

1989 ba10/5 rear main seal
Pete M replied to Buffalo Man's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
things I've learned the hard way: buy a reusable oil pan gasket so you don't need a new one each time you drop the pan again because the RMS still kinda leaks. buy 2 RMS so you have a spare when you mess up the first. I'm pulling the engine of this current truck (for other reasons) and look forward to finally doing an RMS while sitting in a chair rather than lying on the ground -
I like how they used the black paint lines and the white cab vent to square up the rear door visually and get rid of that weird angles that come from smashing an MJ and XJ together.

Excess pressure in fuel tank
Pete M replied to hgeranium's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
it's the big black cylinder. need to make sure the lines going all the way back to the tank aren't crushed. even if you're venting the fumes to air, that's preferable to plugged up. -
Ol' Black N Tan (the ORIGINAL poor man's stroker)
Pete M replied to MancheKid86's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
the OG hardcore MJ build I read up on that thing when it was first happening. the original inspiration for my first MJ. man that was a while ago. -

Excess pressure in fuel tank

is your charcoal canister still hooked up? -
make sure it's outdoor safe. would suck to find out the wheels inside rusted stuck when you needed that key

there's a thread at the bottom of the DIY subforum that might be of help with repairing them https://comancheclub.com/forum/10-mj-tech-diy-projects-and-write-ups/

well that was 2 hours of my life. nothing is allowed to be easy there are 10 bolts holding a fender on and, no matter my precautions, most all of them snapped the u-clip in half and spun in place. plus the lower 2 were once used to jack up the truck at some point so they were of course bent. (don't do that!) I was able to eventually get most with pliers grabbing the nut, but still needed to cut one and drill out another. plus whomever decided to use those tiny retention washers on the flare bracket bolts can bite me. but the fender and flare and antenna are now removed and I can address the rust and other stuff all I know for sure is that I'm using a giant tub of antiseize when I put the truck back together check it out! one actually came off with the studs intact! I don't dare reuse it, but yay anyways!

which problem is it that you're having?
