Zenobian_84 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Thinking about replacing the Scrambler Futuras that are on my MJ with something different sometime this year. Had the tires on there going on 3 years with no real issues other than the driver's rear needing to be patched. Tires performed pretty decent on the highway and off-road with no real issues to speak of. A stout tire worth the $80 a piece I payed for them. Still got a bit of meat left on them, so I might try and sell them if I do end up replacing them. Had my eye on the Wrangler Radials that we sell at the shop, or some Uniroyal Laredos, but can't decide. Can't recall if either offer white lettering, but if they do, which looks better? White letters in or out on an MJ? I know it really just comes down to personal preference, but I get customers all the time that come in with compact pickups and they always seem to want the white lettering on the inboard side. :dunno:
dasbulliwagen Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I know some people swear by the Wranglers but in my experience as a mechanic I've never seen any that wear properly or that stay quiet. Could be that the only people that buy them drive junky cars already and that that is the issue. Just seeing what I've seen I would never buy a set. As far as lettering... I prefer them in. Cleaner look that way.

If it's out, that's alot of scrubbing and rubbing to get the blue protective film off. It can be very stubborn. Easily adds 5 to 10 minutes to however long your truck was already in the shop.

Incommando Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 For a street truck out is fine ( but in looks better IMHO). If you use your jeep as a jeep then those white letters look like crap in short order.

If it's out, that's alot of scrubbing and rubbing to get the blue protective film off. It can be very stubborn. Easily adds 5 to 10 minutes to however long your truck was already in the shop. I once had a customer who wanted the letters in but I also needed to clean off the blue and paint the letters black so you couldnt see them if you looked under his car. I vote in . But not painted.

mjeff87 Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I vote in..... and a comment on those Laredo's you are contemplating....I had a set of them on a longbed S10 (with a Vortec V6) back in the day. The most absolute worst tire I ever had on a pickup in the rain (and snow, if that's a concern to you). I'd never recommend them. YMMV. Jeff

AMCJeepMJ Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 We have Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires on our Escape and have the white lettering facing out. A few incidents with rubbing against a curb have put white spots/marks on the front right tire, but that's all a part of putting a teen through driver's education.
