I thought long and hard about this exact topic. Here are some of my thoughts: The 4.0 is an afterthought in this chassis (originally had a GM V6); this is what led to the silly radiator arrangement and cramped quarters. iron head non-crossflow head exhaust has to cross over to the passenger side at some point... aforementioned tight quarters for a charge-cooler I was going to go with megasquirt, use coils from an LS, maybe use e85, etc. etc. I never did any of it. I'm putting a TDi in it instead. That being said, I'd love to see it done and I'm sure all of these problems can (have been) overcome. Best of luck and please post your progress!!

Picked up some power '97up doors. Not sure at this point how I'm going to use them... parts donors for the 1-piece glass, regulator, and trim? Or will I change out the striker and put the late doors on the truck? One thing I'm unsure of is if the early interior panels can be mounted onto the late door...?

Starting the swap at this time was not really my intent, but the drivetrain really needed to come out for the rust repairs... I let the excitement get to me.

Very nice. I did this on the passenger door some years back; good write-up. -

Both inner pieces are in! Didn't suffer too much distortion from the welding; it all fits beautifully!! -

Yes, it's progress. Hopefully I'll have the other side in place tomorrow. I may have intentionally done the passenger side first so I wouldn't have to look at the crappy-er welds every time I got in the truck -

Finally caught the right combination of weather, time, and motivation to jump back on the rockers; -

Got this little gem from my Matco guy: And it works wonders! That's all I was able to knock out today, but man I'm feeling better about it already!

I guess I always figured that the low pressure cutout switch handled the compressor cycling??

I installed the same "different" core in my '90 and have always wondered why the A/C never has gotten cold again... not saying that you'll for sure have the same problem, but it wouldn't surprise me. I happen to have my HVAC box removed for some other repairs; I'd love to get a hold of an OE-type design.
