  6. The FSM excerpt I have calls out seam sealer there, but I'm not sure I see any evidence of it on these particular ones. You make a compelling case for at least peeling it apart to investigate. Now I just need to figure out how to reach in there...
  7. I should clarify - the goal is another rust-free 20 years on the road as a daily. This is a full "resto mod" and I'm making every reasonable effort towards that. No band-aids or halfway repairs - particuarlly regarding metal or body work.

  9. I already bought doors and I noticed this minor rust after the fact, but they're in way better shape than my originals so whatever. Ultimately, I'd rather spend the time and effort fixing these, and I have my doubts that many local salvage doors won't have this issue brewing anyway. Painting is not an issue.

  12. Well, the 2K tubes went a lot farther than I anticipated. Lots of lessons learned when applying them - most of which I'm sure I'll forget by the next time I do this on something
  13. Rockers were one of the initial reasons this truck went under the knife - then they end up being the LAST thing buttoned up before primer. Strange how things go like that.
  14. 1st coat of SPI 2k epoxy is on. Goal is to have seam sealer and LizzardSkin applied within the 7-day window for no-sand application.

  17. Disclaimer: not an expert. Whichever side is open needs to allow for whatever gets In to drain / dry out and have adequate corrosion protection (I would think this is generally the side facing the elements). I'm using 2k epoxy in place of POR15 - I have to give mad props to their marketing department, as they've got lots of people on board with their product... Anyway, in my opinion, applying a product like Raptor liner on both sides is likely to trap moisture. I think the missing piece in your recipe is cavity wax. It may require periodic reapplication in some areas, but it's going to complete the picture. I'm curious as to where you added drainage?
  18. I'm going with a combo of brushable 1K and some 2K. Not sure exactly where each will be applied.
  19. I also discovered rust under the factory sealer. Spooky. It seems there are different schools of thought regarding seam sealer, and I think the "seal one side" approach makes the most sense. As appealing as "seal everything" sounds, you have to ensure that moisture isn't trapped. I won't pretend that you can actually prevent moisture from getting in. Even condensation from hot/cold cycles is enough to cause problems. It looks like Jeep thought the same way: Edit: I do plan on being very liberal on the "one side"
