  3. Redoing my thread that i deleted before the photobucket fiasco. I bought this in 2011. Me and a buddy drove 6 hrs one way and I was so stoked I bought it without really looking at it. Shortly after the newness wore off I began finding how poorly it was built by the previous owner. My first trip out I went into bumper deep water, then discover the floor had many pinholes from rust, it would be a year before I tackled that then it mostly sat for a couple years since I was burnt out on working on it. It came 97+ hoakey-a$$ swapped with what I was told a 99 xj 4.0 that turns out to be held in place with a tj motor mount bracket with 1 bolt on the passanger side. After trying brown dog off roads motor bracket kit and it not fitting, I contacted them and they asked for the block number. Heard back shortly after and was informed it was a wj motor, and they had luckily made 2 wj/xj kits prior and hooked me up free of charge and donated the kit that didn't fit to wounded for warriors. Front axle was a d30 with power tax and teraflex steering I believe. Rear was a 8.8 with 4.10s on 35s and that was a dog.. I immediately put on some 33" Cooper stt after cramming the 35s into the fenders and and it began its journey of having mismatched color panels for the next 6 or 7 years. When H3resq was a member here we became friends, and when he went full width I was talked into buying his axles and suspension. So off went the Rubicon express long arm kit that was held on by a total of 6 bolts and 4 sketchy bubblegum stich welds. Install on the rock krawler 3link was a pain and took much longer than I planned. After I swapped in the Rubicon d44 up front and the mj 44 in the rear, it sat more.. I'll try adding some pics in somewhat order from new to current. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  4. So.... I purchased this truck many moons ago. I am ashamed to say that after nearly ten years the truck has not been in running condition for almost the entire time. I purchased it in Las Vegas, trailered it Texas, then a couple year later trailered it to California. I've let just about anything get in the way of getting this thing done, now i''m starting to make progress. Here's where it all started: https://comancheclub.com/topic/17442-old-drippy/?tab=comments#comment-178325 Started as: 1991 Jeep Comanche 2WD 4.0 AX15 Rough condition is an understatement... I decided to give this another try, this is what the final form is shaping up to be: Converted to 4X4 D30 4.10 Spartan Locker, manual locking hubs External slave AX15 NP231 / SYE Adam's Drive shaft...shafts Ford 8.8 LS 4.10, C-clip eliminator Mercedes OM617 Diesel Garrett T3/T4 Hybrid 97+ Front clip & doors Sheet metal on bed was garbage, decided on flatbed- only half done. 15 Gallon aux fuel tank, Also i painted it brown. Here it is as it sits today: Much more to come.
  5. I picked this up last Saturday from an auction, it was an abandoned vehicle. I paid $1400 for it. It has a 4.0, auto, 2wd,.
  6. I have had 5 XJs over the years and with a recent purchase of a new home, my wife and I figured it would be a good idea to own a little truck for dump runs and for me to drive back and forth to work. Being familiar and loving the XJ platform, an MJ seemed to be a logical choice. I found a 1988 shortbed 2wd Comanche with 116k on it and purchased it with the idea to get it on the road and then do a minor build over the winter. Did I mention this MJ already had a 5.5" lift from the previous owner and had a hp Dana 30 already tossed under it with preps of converting it 4wd? I also have a '01 XJ I was daily driving before the rot got to bad on it that I am planning on using to donate the seats, console, and front sheet metal. The plan currently is to remove some of the lift and get it down to about a 2" lift to make it legal in Maine. I am already in process of swapping over the seats and should have that wrapped up over the weekend. I am also replacing all the brake lines in it and should be done this week. Next will be the sheet metal swap and finally the 5.0 swap. I am working with Novak on making a bolt in mount, similar to their LS swap mount, and will be doing a thorough review on that. For axles, I am still a little bit up in the air. I have always desired a little wider than stock, so I am leaning towards a fzj80 front and rear end. I figure if they can survive under a +4000 lb Toyota Land Cruiser, they should be just fine a little Comanche. I will run a Dana 300 behind the 5.0 and 4r70w and will be using the obd II computer and wiring from the mountaineer donor. I will be running 33" tires and will trim sheet metal as necessary to fit them. Once I figure out how to attach pictures I will throw in some "as arrived" photos and go from there. Ken
