Uh, no. That new Bronco is HOT
-
Not sure if it's tilted as far as in the Jetta, but it's the same direction. Clearance to the steering shaft:
-
I needed to have the transfer case installed to ensure the new control arm brackets weren't in the way, and that led me to pretty solidly decide on engine placement. The trans mount is sitting about 2" forward from factory (OE crossmember is in place for now) and the adapter is clocked full-passenger. As-is, the factory Jetta turbo/manifold (VNT15) actuator won't clear the extra A/C compressor's fittings, but it's not impossible to re-clock. Otherwise it fits! I was assuming I wouldn't have the option to use it. LATER DISCOVERED BOTH COMPRESSOR SIT TOO CLOSE TO AXLE FOR MY COMFORT Track bar clearance (or lack thereof): Gonna make a new mount and flip it

See I'm actually enjoying the repairs, but they're going. so. slow! I just needed some visual progress.

Completing the floor found it's way to the back burner; I guess I was just getting bored with it and wanted to do something more fun.

Project Not Enough Slots

Jealous. Scout IIs are the quintessential "SUV" in my book. -
Nice to finally know what that little plate is/was actually for! So this thing attaches where exactly? The frame, and also to the oil pan?

Finally, switch trim covers!

Just now reading this thread. Some of us believe that there's always a purpose behind suffering, though it's not a guarantee we'll ever really know what it is/was. Not sure if we share this perspective, but I'm praying for you regardless.

When you say "mating area" are you referring to the entirety of the flange, or just the welds themselves? Has he had any opportunities to study the long-term effectiveness of this?
-
So, you're planning on only weld-thorough primer on the entire flange surface? I would recommend looking into weld-through primer's adhesion properties (or lack thereof). What I have read indicates that what makes the stuff "weld-through" also greatly diminishes how well the stuff protects from corrosion on the long term. This is what led me to mask off for a tiny heat-affected-zone around each plug weld area and apply the good stuff to the remaining surface. What I am unsure of is whether to spray the weld through on these masked off areas right before welding. But I've not seen much to indicate that the weld itself gains any corrosion resistance from the primer. I need to read up on this topic again.

Success with the diffuser nozzle tube thingey! This can seemed to empty itself quite rapidly compared to the last one with the regular nozzle. This is where the wand came from; I've just been clearing it out with some brake clean and re-using it wherever it'll fit
-
This is the best I can come up with. I bought a bunch of small round stickers and I mask off the weld holes already drilled in the part. I'll be using some kind of aerosol with a diffuser wand/nozzle on the areas I reach after welding; ideally a 2k epoxy like in the above picture, but I'm not sure the wand I have is compatible with those cans. Otherwise I'm probably just going to rely on a cavity wax like Fluid Film reapplied periodically. What I'm not sure of is if applying a weld-through primer onto these surfaces is beneficial, ineffective, or actually harmful. I was digging around on I-CAR's website the other day and noticed that some OEMs have semi-recently advised against using weld-through primers due to concerns regarding weld puddle contamination compromising the integrity of the weld. I'll see if I can find the article again.

Finally getting back into the MJ game! I couldn't bring myself to close up the frame without doing some kind of reinforcement/bracing. So here it is; should add quite a bit of strength without a bunch of extra weight and moisture-trapping:

Following this build is making it hard for me to not cage up mine while it's stripped down. Thanks a lot! -

Replacement door hinge pin bushings?
A-man930 replied to EUREKA's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mine had roll pins stock... they shouldn't work themselves out. Bigger question is how do you intend to drill out the chassis-side to install a bushing? -
I've considered this exact swap and quickly steered away because of the JK price gouge factor. $2k sounds about right. They shouldn't cost that much, but they're for a JK so they're gold plated

non-jeep junkyard treasures to hunt for
A-man930 replied to omega_rugal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not just the S-10, all kinds of GM vehicles from the 80s - early 2000s. If they're different at all they would still be chock-full of donor parts; like all of them except the lower housing and the steering shaft...
