My buddy drove down and the Cruiser is on a trailer and we're headed to Michigan. Going to fix it myself this weekend I guess.

Yeah, hopefully it's just the belt (and timing cover since there's a hole in it) and nothing more.

Google search for a Cummins Comanche and you might find the guy that merged a Cummins C with "omanche" already (though he did it the hard way) to give you an idea of scale between the C and the rest. It looked really cool and should be easy to replicate.

So the timing belt let go in the Cruiser late last night stranding me in Marion Ohio. I'm awaiting word from the shop as I chill in my motel room, so I'm not yet sure what the plan is. We shall see. But I did get to go junkyarding yesterday and snagged some good MJ stuff ('gates, gas skid, tails, racerback, rear carpet panels, etc) so it's not all bad. but this cheap trip north is no longer cheap. got any good road trip stories?

from what I've read, it'll be close enough to make work, but not exact. finding good 30 year old carpets in the 'yards is a challenge unto itself. new carpet is available from ACC, but that too is close enough to make work, but not exact.

I can confirm that. though i don't know the exact date of change. if you can find the back of a late model bench, it'll go onto the early bench. oh, and RayBuck makes brand new covers for certain benches (though not all for some reason).

this is how to measure the height

no need to let it get hot. get the rear up 6", crack the sensor, then start the engine. it's easy to go too far and have the sensor pop off which would then spew hot coolant all over. I usually suggest covering it with a rag when doing it.

I would still try bleeding out the temp sensor. not because I doubt the effectiveness of the vacuum fill system, but because renix 4.0s are notorious for trapping air at the back of the head where the sensor is.
