Contact the toolbox manufacturer for possible replacement parts, or call a lock smith to re-key the lock and have new key cut.

My experience from years ago was also no brake lights. Tail lights, turn signal and flashers all worked. I replaced the brake light switch, but still nothing. I studied a wiring diagram and noticed that the only location for brake lights ran through that the other light systems did not was the multi-function switch in the column. (Mine has cruise control.) I replaced the multi-function switch and now my brake lights work. If you don't have cruise, then this may not help.

Help Identify My Transmission

That's the fill plug. The drain plug is on on the passenger side. it looks like you have an AX15 with an internal slave cylinder. -
Renix owners looking for a scanner
87MJTIM replied to 87MJTIM's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have an MT2500. There is a reason it is called a "Red Brick." It is big and bulky. Mine also will lock up and not respond to button and scroller commands. I like the look of Nick's scanner. It can be mounted in the cab and give real time data. -
I subscribed to this youtube channel by Nickintime. He's got an 89 XJ and he has made numerous youtube videos on all the modifications he's done to it. I've use his videos as a "how-to" for doing work on mine. (I am not doing the mod's he has done. I just use it to see how to take things apart AND put them back together.) He has recently started a set of videos on building a scanner for the Renix Jeep. This recent one has a proto-type version. It looks pretty nice for those of use that are fortunate enough to have the Renix. (Unlike those HO's that have to turn their keys on and off and count the flashing lights [and click your heals three times and say "there's no place like home] ) He is building it to mount inside the cab and feed real time data. I don't know if there is way to capture and store the data for future reference. That would be a nice feature to keep track of engine performance. Here is the most recent. He has more/other videos on his facebook page, also. Once he has a final versions - and that works with manual trans - I would be interested in getting one.

Please Identify this hose/Filter
87MJTIM replied to Xdt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What size is that hose? It looks like a radiator hose. I cannot think of why a rad hose would be there. As Gogmorgo said, the only two hoses down under are the vent tubes for both the trans and tcase. These tubes are approx. OD 1/2" and ID 3/8". -
Help Identify My Transmission
87MJTIM replied to jdritchey98's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks like an AX15. Did you (or a PO) swap trans? If the trans case splits front to rear at the top and bottom, then its a BA10/5. That was what came from the factory. Your pictures don't look like the BA10 The BA10 coming out for the last time: -
It might have to do with the type of tcase: 231, 242, 229 etc. :dunno:

On Jeepforum.com someone converted a CJ's turn signal lights to DRL. He got a wiring harness from a VW retailer. This may be a route to pursue. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/i-converted-turn-signals-drl-s-3843841/

If the YJ was a 4.0, then it is an AX15. Yes, it will fit. However, the tcase for a YJ clocks differently then for XJ/MJ. The bolt pattern on the trans is diff between the YJ and XJ trans. Youtube video going from XJ trans to a YJ: Pt 1: Pt 2:

We have 1/2 bath on our first floor. Its located at the front of the house with the exhaust vent running to the rear of the house. We had issues with birds making nests in the vent for a while. Then one day we noticed a bad stench coming from the vent. We figured a bird must have died in the vent. I purchased a dryer vent brush to clean out the vent. So, I opened the vent in the bath, ran a fishing tape from the outside into the bath (think about this in a minute), hooked it to the brush. I then went out side and started to pull the brush outside. I am standing on the blue ladder when I am greeted with this. BTW - the ladder is on a deck approx. 8' off the ground. Naturally, I called to my wife saying: "Honey, come look at this." She hates snakes. It was a 3' rat snake! It some how climbed up the deck, amazingly, climbed up and in to vent! Took care of our bird problem, but, boy, does snake poop stink! Remember, I opened the exhaust fan in the bath, then pushed a fish tape in to the house. I could have easily pushed the snake in to the house as well. My wife would have loved me for that...NOT!

I've owned mine for 29 years. Honestly, I stopped paying attention to that about 28 years ago. Sorry.

pigeot to ax15 swap help
87MJTIM replied to th3m4nm4rcu5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If the AX15 is from 93 and earlier MJ/XJ, it is most likely an internal slave cylinder. I believe you would need a new/matching int. slave for the AX15. If the AX15 is from a 94 and later XJ, then it is an external slave. This is a plus. You will definitely need an ext. slave and a hose line. You could purchase a master/slave kit which is a pre-bled set up. Make sure the kit is for a PRE-97 AX15. The master cylinder for the later years will interfere with the brake booster. Bad news is the cross members are different. Try to get the cross member AND mounting bracket that came with the AX15. Everything else is P-N-P. Good luck. (Put in your signature your Yr. eng, trans, whether 2 or 4 wd [obviously 2wd], any modifications you or a PO made, and most of all you location. If another member is close by, they may be available to help out. ) -

87MJTIM replied to th3m4nm4rcu5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you want to get a "quality" int. slave, you $hould go to a $tealer$hip. When you install a new one, leave the straps in place. Bleed the clutch first. The straps will pop off when you press the clutch in. -

Bad slave cylinder? Leaking from inside sounds like the problem. -
Did Jeep put an auto in the MJ? Because everyone I've owned was a manual. (I've only owned one, but I think it is a good sample.) I owned a 91 XJ: manual and an 84 CJ: manual

Bypassing Heater Valve on Renix 87
87MJTIM replied to tadchad's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't think the 2.5 is considered a "Renix." But, then again, Renix is associated with the fuel delivery system. If you have a pressure bottle on the passenger side fire wall, then you probably have the heater control vacuum valve. -
Bypassing Heater Valve on Renix 87
87MJTIM replied to tadchad's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Correct me if I'm mistaken, but with the Renix, there is the pressure bottle to contend with. Wouldn't you need a T pipe adapter? Straight hoses to the heater core would not work. Does anyone have a part number for a T adapter that replaces the vac fitting? -
Here is the link to the 88 electrical manual http://comancheclub.com/topic/12083-electrical-manual/?hl=electrical+manual

Where exactly are the wires running? Could be seat belt buzzer, or 4wd light in the console. Power to B-pillar lights? Rear bed light? There is an 88 wiring diagram on CC. I know from experience that the wire colors and connectors are diff from 87, but not that much. Download the manual and trace the wires around.

cherokee rocker on a MJ?
87MJTIM replied to dustyinthedirt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Z&M out of Toledo OH has MJ rockers. I picked up a driver's side for $40 at the York PA Jeep show last July. He had both driver's and passenger's side for $40 ea.
