  1. There is a lower boot cover that covers the trans tunnel (inside the console). Mine ripped years ago. I purchased a lower shift boot for a TJ model. If you search for MJ XJ, the part is no longer available. http://www.morris4x4center.com/gear-shifter-boot-interior-52078970ac.html
  2. Sounds like the fuel pump. Check the ballast resistor (driver's side fender). Bypass it by connecting the two wire together. If that doesn't solve it, then get the DVOM and test the wires.
  3. Which CPS did you get? For the 89 Renix or for the 98 AX15? S/B for the 89 Renix
  4. Many 86 MJ owners swap Chevy 3.4. I've read it is larger version of the V6 than the 2.8 that came in the 86s. This way you can gain 2 cylinders. The issues with a 4.0 swap is the firewall on the 86 may need to be "modified" to fit the longer engine block. There are lots of write ups on the swap on Comancheclub.
  5. Here is a candidate for a swap: http://smd.craigslist.org/cto/5551855696.html down in southern MD. However, there are issues with putting a 4.0 into an '86. There are lots of write-ups about doing this swap on ComancheClub
  6. That truck must have spent it life near OC, MD or the PO parked it in the water. You should search for another MJ to transplant the drive train in to. (Although, every MJ available is probably suffering the same issues.) You could make back some $ by parting it out. It looks like a factory bumper. Tail lights are needed by other MJs. Other parts: leaf springs, tail gate, fuel sending unit, etc. (Where in MD?)
  7. Mine was leaking. Water was getting under the carpeting and rusting the floor. The body shop found an open metal seam where the cowl top and fire wall panels connect. The factory spot welded the two together and used a seam-sealer. After 25+ years, the seam sealer deteriorated and was letting water in. My experience.
  8. What's in the MJ and XJ - engine, trans, 2wd or 4wd?
  9. I put a harness on my CJ. While driving one night, I hit the high beams...the road went dark. Turned out one of the wires was poorly connected in the in the relay socket. Pulled out the wire. Made a better connection. Re-attached to the socket. I had high beams!
  10. Bignuke, you are correct. I thought he was looking at that truck. Except for the wiring, he should look at those issues. (Although, he should still look over the wiring.)
  11. Ok. Back to the OP's original question. Things to look for: Rust under the carpeting, wheel wells and rocker panels. Look at the wiring to see if it has been hacked up. You said is an 87 with a 92 HO. Did the PO swap the 92 wiring harnesses in the engine bay and dash? Do all electrical items work? All the lights (rear, brake, turn, back up, interior, cargo bed), radio, wipers, heater, AC, horn. Is the spare tire carrier present and working?
  12. True, but the title will list it as an 87 model, not 86.
  13. If I am not mistaken, Jeep did not make an '86 SWB. Better check your VIN.
  14. There is a display dimmer feature on factory radios. When you turn on you lights, the radio display will dim. There is a dimmer relay that controls the display (see 88 electric manual)
  15. I did not know the year of change for the tip of the input shaft. I will make a mental note. Thanks.
  16. I purchased a Dorman 690042. It is spect'ed for a 73 CJ5 with a 304 engine. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=628303&cc=1309441
  17. That JC Whitney is a FRONT BUMPER hitch, not a rear bumper. I purchased from Krusty and I'm happy with it (but I'm "south of the boarder").
  18. You will/may also need to get a tcase from the AX15 donor. The tcase from the BA will not mate up to the AX. The input shaft spline counts are different (BA - 21 splines, AX - 23 splines). Or, you can rebuild the tcase to replace the input shaft. Also, what year Jeep did the AX come from? The earlier AX's were internal slaves and the input shaft tips had a smaller tip. Later AX's (94+) came with external slaves and a larger input shaft tips. If the AX came from a YJ and not an XJ, the tcase clocking will be different. To go from internal slave to external slave will require at least changing the slave if not the whole clutch hydraulic system. If your AX is the later model (larger tip) you will need to change the pilot bearing/bushing. See my conversion thread: http://comancheclub.com/topic/48136-my-ax15-swap/
  19. The 2 flat wires - did the "new" column have cruise control?
  20. Honestly, I didn't pay that much attention. I reinstalled the shifter, ran it through the gears and put it back in the shed.
  21. Here are pictures of my BA shifter: Hope these help.
  22. But where are you?!?!?!? You did not say location, either in your profile or your posting. (I'm just saying.)
  23. so that's what the bleu thing is on the xj harness. guess I got one too then. Don't you know? It's for the new Blu e- cigarettes!
  24. Mine is a Renix and I love it.
