Looked pretty far from junk to me.

Wish I hadn't seen that.

There are not strong enough words in any language I know of to describe just how crazy (and AWESOME) this is.

Pretty old, but here's one.

And for the love of all that's holy in the world, don't drive your MJ on salty roads!

Every single replacement carpet for the MJ is made by the same manufacturer. It is uncut, fresh out of the mold when you get it. You will need to cut the carpet for any and all things that need to come up through it. There is also a few inches of "extra" carpet on all sides that you will need to get rid of. Expect to spend a very long time on your knees with a razor blade getting the cuts in the carpet just right. I replaced mine about a year and a half ago with mass-backed standard thickness carpet. This color is Mist Grey, available from Stock Interiors. I spent a long time getting it to fit right, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

I could see $100 for a tailgate in good enough condition (no or not much lower seam rust, and with a tailgate handle). Don't pay that much if you can get it for less, obviously, but he's not completely crazy.

Codename Bumblebee: Now With Oil Pressure!
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Half of me wants to do this and half of me just wants to throw a junkyard engine at it. On one hand, this engine kinda sucks in the first place and always has. It's never sounded good and always has seemed very much down on power, and I'm afraid that running it for any length of time with 0 oil pressure has pushed it over the edge. On the other hand, I don't really feel like doing an engine swap on it either. My 91's oil pan was stuck on so much that I'd almost rather just wing an engine at it than do an oil pump in situ again. Oh, I know! I'll let it sit for a few more months! That'll fix it!- 60 replies

Wow, AMC even came back from the dead to write this 1994 Comanche manual! Very interesting that it's been made into a hardback, I haven't seen them like that before. I bet that would survive a whole lot better on a shelf than the crappy softback ones. I hardly use my '91 FSM set and they're coming apart. If I had an 86 I'd buy it just for that.

Codename Bumblebee: Now With Oil Pressure!
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Yeah, happened all of a sudden too. Last time I drove it it made halfway decent oil pressure. I fired it up today and had absolutely nothing on the gauge and it sounded terrible. I looked in through the oil cap hole and saw that the rockers were totally dry. Then I unscrewed the oil pressure sender and had absolutely no oil come out, not even a dribble. It's full of oil too. Sudden oil pump failure, maybe? This engine has never sounded particularly healthy. I kind of expected this at some point.- 60 replies

Codename Bumblebee: Now With Oil Pressure!
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Breaking news! The engine seems to have traded all of its oil pressure (what little it had) for a rod knock. More at the top of the hour.- 60 replies

I make the motion that we use Don's truck for the CC logo (or at least one of the designs) on all of the cards and magnets from now on. It would be a fitting tribute to how much of a pillar he was around here.

Reupholstered Bench Seat: LIKE NEW! (1987 Comanche)
Minuit replied to NEO auto's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Damn, your upholstery guy is good. That looks exactly like the factory cover. You should start a build thread! -
They're the same, except for the bezel around the shifter. The automatics have a sliding thingy with the PRNDL symbols where the manuals have a rectangular bezel that attaches to the rubber shifter boot. You'll just need that bezel. https://www.amazon.com/Omix-Ada-18886-94-Transmission-1984-2004-Wrangler/dp/B0093E8SRG/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1548435436&sr=8-1-fkmr2&keywords=cherokee+shifter+bezel

Without Don, this place truly won't be the same ever again. RIP Don, we'll miss you down here. You were a good friend. Condolences to all of Don's friends and family.

Looks to me like the "compass module" they're referring to is the computer itself that's in the front of the console that is quite unlikely to be working as it stands. All of the ones I've seen have the compass circuitry built in to a single module. The back half might house the keyless entry module (it has a black dome lens), which is a useless infrared receiver and is difficult to deal with for all sorts of reasons. The one advantage it has is that it's very small, but you may be able to substitute your own keyless entry module there if desired. To my knowledge, all 90-96 XJ consoles are the same. Grand Wagoneer consoles may be the same as the XJ as well. The console for the ZJ has a different computer (and has many functions not supported by the 90-96 XJ console) but the physical console may interchange. The 97+ XJ consoles are entirely different. You can tell them apart by the shape up front - the 97+ consoles kinda look like they have "wings" at the front.

IMO, all they are and all they'll ever be is a curiosity. I think it's cool that exactly 100 of them existed and that they have individual numbers, but they have no value to me other than that. If you're banking your fortunes on the unproven value of a "rare" automobile that was made as a collectible, you're absolutely crazy. That truck won't ever be worth 10k as a Street Comanche. It'll only ever be worth 10k on its own merits. Do a fantastic job bringing it back to life and MAYBE it'll be worth that much. For what it's worth, if my '91 was a SC, I would have taken the body kit off pretty much right away.

After all these years, people are still the same. Whodathunkit? That "FAT FOLKS" ad: You could print that on some kooky health website right now and it would fit right in except for being so upfront about calling people fat. Just sprinkle in the word "natural" liberally and you're good to go!
