Yep. The HOs use the CHRY-1 adapter for the engine and the CHRY-2 (I think, I don't have it) for the transmission.
-
Man, I'm glad someone knows how to do this stuff... you guys might as well be doing black magic from where I'm standing.

Worn LCA bushings are usually what causes caster to go out of spec, but on a vehicle that has been in an accident, who can say for sure? I can think of plenty of different things and most of them are "something got bent in the accident". Perhaps the shop found one of the LCAs was bent and only replaced one, leaving original worn bushings on the other side? That would be a crappy thing for a shop to do, but I'm sure it's happened.
-
If the pull is due to the caster being off, the vehicle will pull to the side with less (more negative) caster angle. The caster is adjusted using shims behind the lower control arm brackets on the body.

If the newest thing you'll use it for is an '05, you don't really need an 8.2 cartridge. I'm pretty sure 8.2 is the very latest firmware for the MT2500 and the cartridges updated that much are pretty rare. They were updated every model year. I think the version from 2005 was 6.4, but don't quote me on that.
-
By "programmable" they really mean "updatable". The programming is done by Snap-On and I don't think they do it anymore. Every time a new model year came out, you'd have your cartridge updated to the latest version. You'll want to know what the firmware version on any cartridge you get is.
-
The VCI cartridge has worked for everything I've tried it on. I've heard that sometimes the new cartridges don't work on older things, but mine works on things at least as old as my '89 MJ. Also, you don't really need the troubleshooter cartridge. It gives you some helpful info, but you don't need it for the tool to work.

Firmware version 8.2 with a VCI cartdige. The JEEP-1 adapter is MT2500-49.
-
The Renix diagnostic port adapter is JEEP-1 I believe. Any cartridge that covers domestics of that year should work. The 2005 will use an OBD2 adapter plus one of the "keys", sorry I don't know which. For that late a year I think you'll need one of the programmable cartridges. I have one that goes up to 2007 (works on the '89 and '91 too) but I think they updated them until 2009.

Unless the call is from a number I know, even if I'm standing right next to my phone I probably won't answer it. If you really want to talk to me, you can leave a message and I'll get back to you. The robocallers have ruined it for everyone. Suits me just fine. I hate talking on the phone anyway.

What Minuit knows about stock Jeep radios
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
You may know about the Eagle Premier's CZ-150 component audio system that I'll eventually be putting half of into my truck. You may not know that there's an AMC equivalent, which to my knowledge was only found in the very high trim Renault cars for '86 and '87, the CZ-145. Here's one NOS on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1980s-Jeep-AM-FM-cassette-radio-Stereo-AMC-eagle-Wagoner-oem-nos/273800407175 This is probably the rarest and weirdest thing you're likely to see in this thread. I have never seen one for sale on eBay before this one. -

Yeah, silver colors always look completely different between dark and bright days. The higher trim levels could have painted trim so it definitely could be factory. My truck started life as a base model, so it has black trim.
-
It looks a little darker in some of the pics than mine does (also paint code PAC) but in some of the shots it looks just like mine. I believe there was a darker silver in '91 as well.

While we're at it, it's the same for the rear windshield on at least the Comanche.

Where’s the rain coming in??
Minuit replied to Vineyard86manch's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
At this point, I have to assume that the MJ was designed to leak water, and that all of our trucks are actually working as intended. I mean, think about it. Why else would you use an unsealed connector at the wiring harness bulkhead? Why else would you use crumbly foam gaskets for all of the massive holes in the firewall for the HVAC? Why would you use a crappy, thin grommet for the antenna that wallows out and lets water run right down the antenna cable into the cab? Why would you design the firewall in a way that seemingly directs water towards possible leak points? I've never heard of a vehicle that has as many problems with water leaks into the interior, and in as many different places, as the early XJ and MJ. -

That's a pretty characteristic spot for either a windshield or antenna grommet leak. The antenna grommet will be easy to see by removing the kick panel trim. -
how many miles on your truck's factory engine?
Minuit replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My '91 is still running great at 177k. My '89 has approximately 140k and is in no way running great. Change your oil (and don't let it run out) folks. -
I believe this calls for a "you suck". Gotta wonder about the kind of person who'd give up a clean, low mileage '91 for an old Hyundai straight across. I'd almost feel bad making that trade... almost.

Factory cruise control info (91+)
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The part numbers for the stalks are GM part numbers, and I just posted them because I had them bookmarked already. It appears that Jeeps with cruise had the "fat" stalk all of the time with a few different part numbers. Your part number matches my '91 parts manual. I'd really like to get an OEM part if I can help it though. I have intermittent wipers, so no worry there. The "skinny" one on Amazon looks like it was used in cars, not trucks. I suspect that it would work just fine in a Jeep column but I'm not going to throw almost a hundred bucks at that assumption. I might grab one from the yard and see if it works in my truck just for gits and shiggles. I like the way it looks better, that's the only reason I even brought it up. Looks like the only correct part on that eBay listing I posted is the actuator itself. I was able to find a picture of an original XJ actuator and the bracket looks completely different. Guess I'm going to have to piece this together after all. Good to know that there's a bracket at the coolant reservoir. Damn, I was hoping to get everything I needed in one or two transactions. Thanks guys. -
I'll be adding cruise control to my '91 soon. Simple procedure - install the stalk in the steering column and install the actuator in the engine bay. I do have two questions, though. 1. What style of turn signal stalk did the MJs with factory cruise come with? I see two that look like they would fit. One is "fat" and kind of ugly, and one is skinnier like the regular stalks. I don't think it matters, but I'm just curious. Fat: https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-19353957-Original-Equipment-Windshield/dp/B01NBIJ825/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=cruise+control+lever&qid=1555170339&s=gateway&sr=8-6 Skinny: https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-19244690-Original-Equipment-Windshield/dp/B004JBJX8G/ref=sr_1_12?keywords=cruise+control+lever&qid=1555170309&s=gateway&sr=8-12 2. Here is a listing for a NOS actuator with the correct Mopar part number: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OUT-OF-BOX-OEM-Mopar-53007954-Cruise-Control-Actuator-Servo-91-96-Jeep-XJ/183250137613 That cable doesn't look right to me at all. It's missing the part that clips to the throttle mechanism and looks way too short to reach. Is there two parts to the cable that runs to the throttle body, or is it just the wrong cable? If someone with factory cruise control (especially if you have a '91 or '92) could post pics of their cruise control cable from the actuator to the throttle body, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

I don't have an opinion on the 4-door Gladiator yet, but I kind of like the 2-door they're never gonna actually make.

OEM Rear Bumper on Ebay *NOS*
Minuit replied to DesertRat1991's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Alright, which one of you bought this? -
Sounds fun. I take it you'll want an '88 appropriate radio for this one?
