  1. Is the guide hose plugged? I'm asking since my passenger side was plugged (I have manual in my truck).
  2. Punched out the studs and used 1/4-20 bolts.
  3. This forum...being a nice forum (unlike some others I review on searches)...generally does not chastise people when they pose a question, but as we know, many of the questions have already been posed, answered, solved, re-hashed, dissected, fried, dried, and electrified. Perhaps some gentle, polite encouragement for folks to use the Search function?
  4. Took my headliner out....again....Replaced the foam-back cloth in 2015. Seems that the glue between the cloth and foam fails. I was able to peel off the cloth without damaging the foam. The glue I used for the foam to the headliner shell is hold up strong. Still a bit tacky after four years. This time I will just buy some cloth and bond it to the foam.
  5. Since you are taking other things out, recommend you remove the regulators and pull the screw rod completely out. For some reason, the driver's side tends to have a worn spot and the passenger side looks like the bottom item in the photo. The good news, this internal piece is exactly the same as the manual regulators on four door Cherokee, front and rear. Also, if it is just a worn spot, you can swap this piece from driver's to passenger side. Don't know if it is the same on the power regulators. Always worth a look at the junkyard.
  6. Initial look = lug wrench for a deuce and a half. One end did the hex lug nut, the other would remove the squared-headed lug nut that secured the inner tire of the rear duals. Length is to reach the hex nut on the rear duals. So...is the other end square?
  7. Had them issued with equipment in the Army in the late 1990's.
  8. I use regular old 75/90 gear oil.
  9. Question 1: Primarily 70's and 80's rock / metal. Question 2: The Wall and Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (I know...the Beatles aren't "quite" either 70's or rock/metal...but it's a good album).
  10. Oh...and the horizontal one in the center can be a challenge.
  11. Since I have a dash out on a Cherokee....yes there are tabs on the top and bottom that you can push towards the vent to disconnect from the housing. I use a dental pick and a thin flat "spatula" that I got a thrift tore for 10 cents. They are loose because the felt strips attached to the inside of the vent have fallen off. The square one on the passenger side uses two felt tabs glued to the diffuser.

Like fiatslug.....I still have some of mine from the 80's. Had a lot more then though.
  13. Another good bit to know. Thanks.
  14. I have the entire vent window assembly (both driver and passenger).
  15. Got them.
  16. Still looking for them? Picked up a set today from the junkyard.
  17. I know of six in my town of 46K owned by people I have met face-to-face including mine. I have seen four of those driving around, mine included. Thought I saw production numbers before....something like 200-250K total production between 1986-1992.
  18. I've got to agree.....if you were trying to do that, you would likely fail.
  19. This is a flow chart I draw regularly at work....usually in meetings with new leaders: O It is a little rounder when I draw it.
  20. The actual swivel vent comes out. The two molded pins that it pivots on, flex to allow you to remove it. Same for all vents. Since you have the panel out, it should be relatively easy to see how the are installed. Sorry - don't have a picture of it. Removing them lets you do a good cleaning. Doesn't really help the bigger question of removing the entire black plastic assembly.
  21. Yep. That was happening on an XJ I bought at the beginning of the year.....the harmonic balancer pulley (metal) was also cutting into the timing cover. Owner was spraying silicone spray on the belt to make the sound go away.
  22. I drilled around the broken screw, pulled it out, filled the hole with a chopped fiberglass/epoxy mix, put the marker light back up there and re-drilled a hole.
  23. Agree with everyone. I took my regulators out, cleaned them, fixed them (corrosion and worn spot), lightly lubed them with lithium grease, and they work easy-peasy (after adjusting the triangle window bolt a little).
  24. Didn't use anything. The wire is pretty thick and was tough to maneuver into position. The holes I drilled were a good tight fit.
