  1. good question. in XJs the 4.0 is far more likely to be paired with an auto (making the AX-15 kinda scarce), but the 2.5 is far more likely to be paired with a manual. so I guess diving into the TJ/YJ realm is just less common for 2.5L MJ/XJ owners? but if I had to wager a guess, the wranglers will likely all be clocked in a similar fashion.
  2. I didn't, but I've got a custom crossmember. it's very close but has never made contact. from what I've read the only mod needed for an otherwise factory truck is a couple whacks with a big hammer. but now that I think about it, that might be for guys reusing the Peugeot crossmember rather than the AX-15 one. the AX-15 one has a 1" drop in the middle. the TJ ax-15 shifter was a bigger pain, but that can be overcome with heat and a bit of a re-bend. (or finding an XJ/MJ shifter)

    Wisdom Teeth

had mine removed back in my teens. wasn't enough room in my mouth for them so they had to go before causing problems.
  4. learn something new every day. turns out I was misremembering which thing was the post-factory add-on. I thought it was the fogs, but it was in fact the cruise control. (which was simply tapped into the brake light wires).
  5. I'll get it in the morning.

so this is a combination of growing up in the salt belt and my general tiredness lately, but I most definitely assumed the worst without actually verifying anything. the nut under the floor is both accessible and in perfect shape. the stud is simply unscrewing from it. but I might still get myself a new tool for christmas.

not sure. I guess I assumed it was inside the frame, but I should probably confirm that first.
  8. dang! trigger on the pneumatic greaser get stuck?
  9. inventing stuff takes time. you'll get there.

looks like I'm about to invest in a pass-thru ratchet set. I can't figure out another way to undo the lowest bolt in the bench seat (the stud just spins and I'm not ready to sacrifice the bracket or damage the carpet) and figure it's worth a shot to slice a groove in the top of the stud, then use the a pass thru to move the nut while a flathead holds the stud still.
  11. I've got a TJ trans in my 88 and appreciate the bit of extra t-case ground clearance that the extra clocking gives.
  12. if you want power, I don't think you'll be happy with the little diesels. don't get me wrong, it can be made to work. but... meanwhile you can get 400+ out of that LS pretty easy.
  13. you're trying to get it to run right before swapping out a bad head gasket?

um, duh! I'd wager that most every guy/gal interested in cool old Jeeps is also likely interested in cool old cars.
  15. an AX-15 is an AX-15. the length is constant. if the trans has a thick aluminum plate between the front and rear halves of the case, it's an AX-15,. But if the trans has a thick steel plate between the front and rear halve of the case, it's an AX-5 and that won't work for you at all. they look similar, but the middle plate gives it away (also the bolt pattern for the bellhousing is very different but the bell isn't always there). the 231 found in the old Jeeps comes in unsealed rear (89 through maybe 96?) and sealed rears (anything after that). can't say I'm 100 percent that they are the same overall length or not. also, your AX-15 is rebuildable.
  16. I found 93s, 94s, and 95s in the yards over the past month and all were crumbled up. quite possible that the change to the newer plastic was mid-year. I'll keep checking 95s. at this point I think I'm going to start buying up all I can find since XJs are becoming harder to find.
  17. good idea. maybe it'll come with the next upgrade. we're kinda overdue for that.

guessing on year. completely forgot to snap a pic of the truck. lol. very bare bones truck. it's at Foss you pull in NC.
  19. I should also add that 97 up are slightly different but probably still usable in our trucks. Maybe? I believe the 96 are the same as ours, but I guess if haven't held an intact 95-down in my hand in quite some time
  20. After much checking out of cherokees, it appears that only 96 got the plastic upgrade that 97 plus got. So if you find them they will not disintegrate on you like the older stuff.
  21. Bar is gone gents. Sorry.
  22. Lol. Be sure to post in the classifieds.
