Guessing you guys know how this New Thread will go...

We're talking your First car or truck that you drove in High School.

This one happened to be mine. Even though this is a stock picture, it represents my 1993 Chrysler Lebaron (gold) to a 'T'.

The V6 in it performed well. Wondered why my dad bought it for me... it was for its engine, and not for its Grandpa Looks. LOL

I used one of two family cars back then.

First drive was in the light blue 1978 Olds Ninety Eight Regency.  It had the 5.7 diesel.  The car was fine.  The engine was a huge POS.

The other car was a faded orange 1977 Chevy Caprice Estate wagon.  It had an emissions crippled 305 V8 that hadn't seen a tune-up in maybe 100K miles.  At best, it had 125 HP but realistically, it was probably 75 or less when I drove it.  Ours didn't have the woodgrain but you get the idea.

My brother’s 1972 340 ‘Cuda in B5 blue with a Hurst 4 speed pistol grip shifter. Looked exactly like this one, don’t have pictures from 45 years ago.

Or my mom’s Dodge 024, again not this exact one.

The first vehicle I bought for myself was my ‘90 MJ that I still have.

In the order that they appeared in the school lot, my Dad’s 2000 Silverado 2500 plow truck, my 89 MJ, and my 86 Eagle. No pics handy of the 2500 and we’re all familiar with the other two I feel.

The fact you drove an eagle to school while all your classmates had no idea you were driving something more unique and rare than daddy’s Porsche or Ferrari. Sure the MJ is like that but it’s got the front end of a common place XJ.

One of my brothers bought a 64.5 Mustang coupe with a 170 3 speed in ‘78. He joined the Air Force in 1980. My dad bought it from him. I drove it to high school for two years. It wasn’t a fast powerful car. But it was fun to drive.

My first was chosen by dad. I don't agree with his taste and still don't.  I beat it like a redheaded stepchild untill I destroyed it.  Then bought my cj.

Anyways it was dark grey with red trim, sorry no actual pics but it was a 79 like the pic.

Best part was driving it in the winter. Never got stuck and the carburetor never cared about the cold. It struggled less than lots of new cars.

The CJs are great, but man, that Elco would’ve been such a cool rig. My Dad had one with a V8 and a 4 speed as a first car, but someone pulled out of a parking lot at night with no lights and the it got wrecked. I think the ergonomics of a G body are darn near perfect.

I had a slew of hand-me-downs when I started driving. The first was a four cylinder ‘90 Chevrolet Lumina that overheated a lot, and the second was a four cylinder ‘90 Dodge Spirit. Both came from older brothers.

FIRST, first car was a ‘76 VW Beetle but I didn’t drive it much by the time I was actually driving. That was replaced by my ‘72 Beetle (that a sharp eye will see the Lumina and Spirit in the background) but that was also a project for the first two years or so that I had it.

Really, I wasn’t driving anything that I considered “mine” for the first couple years I had my license. What I will always consider my first vehicle that I bought and then started driving right away was my Eliminator. Tough to believe that I’ve had that truck since 2005.

I can't find any pictures of my actual car, but mine was a 73 Super Beetle in Marina Blue. Had the stock 1600 and a autostick three speed. It was a huge pile, but I still miss it. The wiring under the rear seat caught fire multiple times, and I had to take the heat exchangers out because they would dump exhaust into the cabin. Had an unbaffled EMPI stinger exhaust, so it was louder than Harleys I would pull up to at stop lights, and it would barely do 65. God, I loved that thing.

The first 2 cars I ever drove though were my grandads 86 charcoal metallic Comanche and my mom's 96 jade satin metallic XJ.

1979 Datsun 510 hatchback. 2.0L, I4 RWD, 5 speed. No AC in Phoenix... It was "grapefruit" yellow, but otherwise looked like the photo below. For a while I had the wiper hose pointed forward out of the grille and could spray people, which wasn't necessarily unwanted in the heat of a Phoenix summer... In hindsight, it was a fun around town car.

Started with a 88 s-10 blazer like this. Really wanted a XJ but parents said no. Only highlight was a put an insanely loud sound system in it. Won a competition hitting 145dbs. Really had no clue what I was doing, but it was fund till it got stolen.
1988 Chevy S-10 Blazer : r/s10

Then fast and Furious came out so naturally had to get the ricer fix. Picked up a 97 eclipse. I had always been into cars but this was the first time I could "modify" something and in natural teenage phase did a bunch of dumb AF things, chopped the muffler, chopped the coils and threw a gigantic wing on. Thing was awful, but I thought I was cool. After having a real job for a bit I started to do things kind of right, then the car was stolen. Had just put brand new wheels and tires on went to work came out for lunch and couldn't find the car.

After I kept with the them of impractical driver and got a 88 K5 blazer. Threw on a 12" lift, chopped the exhaust off with 40s and went to college.  Mobbed that thing around until it got to be too much.

I’m starting to figure out peoples relative ages from this thread

Yeah.  A lot of these high school cars weren't out until well after I was through college.
