COMPOUNDING FINISHED This project has been a real pleasure to follow through on...

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Have been working on this project every weekend, and some weekdays after work. Trying to complete before it gets too cold. Very satisfied with this SEM 3+1 black plastic trim restoration process. Professional Body Shops use these products, so it must be pretty good. Discovered that the cured black coating bonds pretty well... I sanded part of a thin strip that points wheel well side. It smoothed down nicely using 220, and didn't go down to plastic. 1000 GRIT SCRATCHES ~ 2000 AFTER This front fascia is the largest thing I've ever spray painted ! Very complex to keep track of painted areas. 1/2 FINISHED ~ FRONT FENDERS & HOOD COMPOUNDED

This SEM 3+1 Step Process sure worked out well today! The black colorant sprays like paint, but actually appears to become part of the plastic. Does not have that paint-on-surface feel or look. Looking forward to doing this to the front of the vehicle! BEFORE & AFTER

Just as NHMJXJ said: the torch method for "restoring" black plastic fatigues the plastic. DO NOT USE THE TORCH METHOD TO RESTORE BLACK PLASTIC IT TOTALLY DESTROYS THE PIGMENT OVER TIME !!! SO, I CREATED A NEW FUN PROJECT... ... INVOLVES USING THIS PLASTIC RESTORE LINE FROM SEM IT ALL BEGINS WITH FIXING PAINT AFTER WET SANDING F-UPS NEXT WILL BE USING THE MULTI-STEP SEM PROCESS ON THESE... NEXT: • PAINTING ALL BLACK PLASTIC - FRONT FASCIA IS NEXT • AFTERWARDS - SANDING, COMPOUNDING & POLISHING This old bird is gonna look GREAT when finished

PROOF OF CONCEPT Everything demolded properly and very cleanly, just a few more vent holes need to be cut for all the air to escape. However, more experimentation needs to happen before making copies. Instead of buying a cheap & quick white resin to make this 1st prototype, I went with a product that helped establish the "furthest reaches" of how soft I can go. You might think this looks hard, but it is not... it's very soft and flexible. One truth I discovered today was how thin factory plastic was in places — which is the next challenge. To match the hardness, look & feel there are a few routes to take. However, each has benefits and tradeoffs. Here's just a few specs I'm looking for. Also, perhaps as important is the ability to pour indoors safely with proper ventilation. • Shore Hardness • Flexibility • Mixed Viscosity • Pot Life • Cure Time • UV Resistance

Did some late night "pouring" ... the bourbon helped out as well Things are looking promising. I will fully demold this tomorrow.
