Switching From Renix to OBD11 ~Staying RENIX~
89 MJ replied to Drahcir495's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Very good. It was an emotional roller coaster, I’m sure. -
This is going to look so good when it’s done. I’m excited.

The Eliminators would have come with 10 hole wheels. There is no exact number of hunter green 92 Eliminators, but I would guess it has to be less than 100. 92s are rare, HO Eliminators are rare, and hunter green is rare. Its not necessarily worth any more than any other color Eliminator, and I wouldn't say a 92 is more valuable than a 91, but it is a very rare truck.

I suppose that would most likely be the 10 hole wheels like these: But maybe it could also be the 5 spoke ones like these:

I’m curious as to what your thoughts are going to be with the BFGs compared to the Milestars.

I'm sure most of us at some point have done something that isn't quite the right way to do something, but it worked anyways. Let's hear some of those stories. Not so we can try them, but more for an entertainment factor. I have a few from the engine and transfer case swap in the Eagle. First, when we disassembled the engine, the valves looked like the surface of the moon with pitting and carbon. The picture shows how we cleaned the carbon off. To get the mating surface of the valves smooth, we pinched a piece of sandpaper (first 180, then 320) between the seat and the valve and held it still, then turned the valve with a drill. For the seats, we stuck a piece of sandpaper (180, then 320 again) to the valve, then spun it in the seats. Valve lapping compound was used to finish it up. Filling the combustion chamber with water, then using compressed air in the intake/exhaust ports looked like a jacuzzi before this highly scientific valve job. Afterwards it was sealed almost perfectly. Next up was the transfer case swap. I needed a longer driveshaft and was supposed to go wheeling in a couple of days. We ended up cutting an original Eagle driveshaft for the compressing part and welding it to another unknown driveshaft that we had. We did do it correctly by making sure the lines were absolutely straight and used the complete end of the Eagle shaft with the sliding part and used a dial indicator to get it straighter than AMC did from the factory. We even reused whatever u joints were in the driveshafts. Somehow it has been working perfectly for a couple thousand miles. I guess sometimes its better to be lucky than it is to be good.

84-86 XJ/MJ oddities to be mindful of.

I figured you might be entertained by it. I can’t think of anywhere else most of these pictures could be found. -
The hood on a 64 Chevelle is fairly plain looking. My dad wanted to do something about this and ended up finding a damaged 68 Chevelle hood that the scoops will be used out of. We cut the center out of the 68 hood. Here it is lined up in front of the 64 hood.

Photos of several of the 84-86 oddities: 1. A pillar (no screw covers) 2. 86 Air cleaner lid NP229 Transfer case shifter (note the 3 positions for the transfer case shifter: High range, neutral, low range. The 4wd selector is to the right of that, behind the trans shifter) 3. External slave clutch 4. Diesel warning indicators (the gauge clusters also had a boost gauge) 5. The speedometer was different where the cable attaches. The face of the cluster is different as well, but this style was used up until 87, I believe. 6. System Sentry 7. Visor clips 8. Wagoneer tail lights and Jeep emblem location 9. Relay center -
You might enjoy this thread: Ok, I'm done being off topic now

It is just crazy. It is cool to hear the number of people that have stepped up to help though.

You'll fit in well here. There's quite a few Eagle Scouts on the forum.

I like that theory a lot. Makes a lot of sense. I agree that the brochure is 84-85. -

The 2.5L doctor beat me here I see. I was just going to say that this site can host photos too, so there's no need to use imgur unless you prefer to. -

Also available on AMC Eagles. Here is a couple more photos of those wheels: The second photo also shows the 84-85 Wagoneer 21 slot grille and the offset Jeep lettering. -
Any parts store should be able to make you some. That said, I’d go with what limey said and upgrade.

I just try to remember what I’ve got. For my MJ stuff that works fine, but I’m pretty much down to my NOS gate, tail lights, and a few other odds and ends. My Eagle stuff on the other hand is a mess. Same with the 40 stuff and tractor stuff. I like the sheets idea.

This does seem like an electrical issue, but I also wonder if it could be something with the rod going to the ignition switch. Do you have a tilt column by chance? If so, see if it does it if you change the angle of the column. The PO of my Eagle would always have a hard time getting the car to crank or shutoff, but that's because he had the column all the way up. I have the column more straight, so I don't have that issue. I wonder if you are having a similar issue where the ignition switch is getting turned on and off somehow. Otherwise, how do the battery connections look?

I came here to say what the other two said
-
Your best bet might be something like Bring A Trailer. If I were you, I’d get some miles on it to dry to determine whether or not the issue is fixed before selling it.

Glad to see that these are about ready for production. I’ll probably need a set

1987 Comanche - purchase questions. 18k miles

It is weird. Could it be because it seems to be an early one? Maybe AMC didn’t think of having it or accidentally made a run without the diagram? -

They can be easily swapped. It only something like 6 or 8 screws. I think it should have the 10 slot grille, but I’m not 100% sure.
