I’m just brainstorming here, but I thought of something. If you rev it up and there’s no vibration in neutral… It almost has to be something spinning while you’re going down the highway. I don’t know if an automatic transmission can’t have a part to get out of balance and still operate. I’ve never heard of it. So that would leave tires and wheel driveshaft or maybe an axle?

I wonder if it could be in your front suspension and just feels like it’s over the trans.. It sounds like you’ve done a good bit of work to eliminate possibilities. Vibes can be tough to find..good luck!

Nope. 3 bolts on the S-10 700r4 and 4 bolts on the Chrysler 904 trans.

I could have taken the FI parts, harness etc with the 3.4 engine along with all the serpentine accessory drive etc for the $250 price at picknpull. But I removed it all and left it. I hogged out my 2.8 intake primary hole and it runs strong with the Weber. It was about a day to get all the timing and carb adjusting where it needed to be. One day maybe I’ll get it dynoed…. I’m curious about the HP. I did use the Camaro exhaust manifolds and just plugged the O2 sensor holes. Other than that it’s all 2.8 crossed over parts.

Great job, Thanks for the info! If you had done this a few years ago, I may not have stripped all the FI parts, brackets etc off the Camaro 3.4 and left in the yard 😁. I went with a carb mainly because I already had bought a new Weber…. Side note: I used a 700R4 and 241C. I did also have to modify a ‘99 XJ shifter and cut the hole in the firewall for the cable. Mine was a 2wd so I also snagged the ‘99 transfer case shifter and made my own linkage for it.

86 speedometer cable question
Greenjeans replied to ratrapp's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I also did the 2wd to 4wd conversion (XJ). I bought a new one from rock auto, I’m pretty sure it is 94”. That is without cruise control. The 63” is shorter because it goes to the cruise control under the hood. You need the long one if it’s going all the way to the speedometer. -

I just watched Rudy’s latest video last night and I remembered that I had noticed he has no marker lights 😁. I didnt even know they were different from a standard front end.

The grill looks to be damaged. I’m debating taking all of it, I doubt anyone here has found it. But I have a few other things that may eat up my time.

I have never seen an 84-86 in a junkyard but this just showed up. It looks pretty rough in the pictures. But they have a 99, an 01 and this 90 so tomorrow is junkyard day. I don’t know that I really need anything but I love a junkyard run…

Working on my wire tuck, it was looking like rainbow spaghetti with all of my added wires running everywhere…. Maybe I’ll get the A/C condenser and lines back on it before next summer 🤷🏼

I feel like I’m in the space shuttle with all these electonicals. The camera fits snug between the license plate and the tag light.

Another thing I did was to change the springs in the distributor. It only takes a few minutes and I’ve been wanting to play around with them. The original 2.8 spring is the big rusty one. The silver shiny is the “heavy”, the black is “medium” and the gold is “light”. They are from a JEGS timing curve kit for GM HEI’s. I’ve had two of the medium springs in since I built the jeep. Some people use a combination of one medium and one other flavor. 🤷🏼 I know the Weber and hogged out intake as well as the 2050 stall S-10 converter like timing…. I changed to two gold full spicy spring curve in there now. I went for a test drive of ten miles and I’m sure it has 3 more HP…. No knock ping or other excitement so I’ll leave them in and monitor for now…. Next HP upgrade is a set of 8.8mm plug wires that were on clearance from RA for $10.38.. One more note: the 3.4 I have came with two catalytic evil things so the spark plugs are a certain heat range for EGR emissions reburn ….and I don’t need that. I recently changed them out for one heat range colder. 👍 (NGK UR6IX plugs)

For you V6 guys…..I thought I would share my new “Y” pipe that I had made by an actual exhaust shop. The pictures may be tough with angle, perspective etc…. Also you can see a bit of burnt trans fluid (ignore that 😁). If you’ve been following along, you remember that I made my own Y pipe. It was one of the most challenging parts of this project. It was a horrible experience. It was cobble together from mostly junkyard pieces of pipe that have curves I cut them up and just made something that would work. It was on there for about 3000 miles and it did work but it had some issues. Mainly I could not get the transmission pan off Without dropping the pipe. Also, it’s too close to the front driveshaft. It was also too close to the trans pan and I thought there was some heat transfer. Anyway, I finally bellied up to the bar and paid an exhaust shop to make a proper front Y pipe and it is pretty much a work of art, considering the challenge of getting all this pipe up in there into a compact fashion. They used a couple band clamps, which I asked for so that I can take it apart to remove it if I need to. Other than that it looks close to a factory part. By the way, as far as I’m aware, you cannot order a new pipe from Walker or anywhere else. So you’re kind of stuck with making one. it took quite a few man hours, but they only charged me $300 which I thought was fair. edit- it has touched the front shaft just a tiny bit but not enough to get it exited 😳
