On a 15" stock rim, 31x10.5R15 will fit with slight rubbing on the LCA which you can alleviate by adjusting your steering stops. If you move to a 16" stock rim, a 265/75R16 will also fit with steering stop adjustments and proper bump stopping. This is roughly equivalent to 32x10.5R16. Skinnier 32's will fit even better. A 33x10.5R15 will not fit without fender trimming. And I don't believe anyone currently makes a LT32x10.5R15. So, if your dead set on a 15" rim your answer is 31's.

Mysterious "clunk", please help.
DesertRat1991 replied to NHMJXJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, that sounds right. Unless, we all overlooked it -- you didn't mention previously that you had adjustable control arms with heim joints. Heim joints will make noise soon or later. If you wanted a cadillac-quiet ride on the road, then that was the WRONG choice of component. Adjustable control arms with solid rubber bushings at both ends would provide a much quieter and more comfortable ride. This is not true. You can find adjustable control arms with rubber bushings. Many manufacturers provide that option. This is mostly true. Many people who actually need the additional flex for off-road use are usually willing to sacrifice a bit of ride quality on the street. -

Cleaning up a 92 pioneer
DesertRat1991 replied to Codybelec's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Seems like a bad idea for a DD from a cost, gas mileage and ride quality stand point. -
Dude, a cleaned up tailgate handle went for $100 bucks on one of the facebook groups a while back.

No way on the wire wheel. Unmount the tires and try power washing first. Scrub, claybar, then polish.

How to remove paint from the rear lamps ?
DesertRat1991 replied to siojo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used nail polish remover (acetone) to remove paint overspray from the tail lights. Whatever kind of plastic the tail lights are made from was unaffected by acetone. -
+1 on the Grabbers. Been very happy with the AT2 but these are being phased out in favor of the next-gen ATX. I hope the ATX performs as well. He didn't ask for wheel suggestions. But also, those wheels won't fit the MJ without adapters. Wrong bolt pattern.

+1 for IRO. They offer life time warranty on control arms against bending or breaking, on-road or off-road: https://www.ironrockoffroad.com/guarantee.html -

What wheels will you be running? One of the advantages of aftermarket fender flares is the additional outboard tire coverage they provide. The Napier flares are wider than stock, they stick out 3.25" inches from the body. That means you have additional room to run wheels with increased negative offset which would alleviate rubbing on the control arms. -
Factory push bar ?

Can you post some pics of what that is mounted to? And how? Is it bolted to the factory tow hook brackets? -
Sincere condolences to the Hornbrook family.

What a bizarre thread... For those keeping score "dirt poor" actually means: 2017 Laramie, 3 Comanches, SS Chevelle, a brand new Miller welder, ...and at least 1 go cart. #firstworldproblems But honestly, that truck looks like it needs 10k worth of work to make it worth 8k. Can't fault a guy for swinging for the fences though. Good luck.

How many miles are on the truck? Got any pictures of the interior, rear bumper and tailgate?
-
What a way to go. You couldn't get me within 1 mile of a gasoline geyser. The vapor is just as flammable as the liquid gasoline. The air all around them would literally be on fire. Nowhere to run. Nothing to breathe. Awful.

4th Generation MJ project
DesertRat1991 replied to rylee144's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
You do not want a CAD axle in front. Check out the rear axle. Since it's an 86 you might get lucky and find an AMC 20. Who knows. For $200 bucks you could still make hay selling the tail lights and camper shell. -
Ambitious. It was on craigslist a week ago for $7,000.

Nice vid! I noticed the sedan passing through. Is all of Imogene Pass as easy as the vid makes it look? Any obstacles?

Any idea who makes those sliders with the rear hoop?

Nice build! What's the source on that front bumper? -
Well, that would depend on what parts have been replaced...

Time for new steering componants.
DesertRat1991 replied to chopper35nj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
1991- 2001 XJ/MJ use the same drag link as the ZJ. In this case, you just need the upgraded tie rod. 1990 and older XJ/MJ use a smaller drag link TRE and adjustment sleeve. In this case, upgrade both drag link and tie rod assemblies.
