imo 4 grand is a lot to ask for a non-perfect XJ with that many miles. but rustfree Jeeps in the rust belt always pull a premium. pull up the carpet and verify that "rustfree" claim before buying. XJs are no different than MJs and I've see really clean Jeeps with more hole than floor.

taking one up north tomorrow so I'll be down to only 4 loose ones again.

jack up on rear tire, put the trans in neutral, and then rotate the tire around exactly twice while counting the number of times the driveshaft spins. 3 and a half will be 3.55, just over 4 will be 4.10, etc. the link in my signature has a thread all about rear driveshaft lengths. that will help you find out if your new one will need to be longer or shorter than is is currently. and if you're new to MJs, this thread is a gold mine

front axle and front shaft is the same MJ to XJ if they have the same drivetrains. the rear axle will need leaf perches burned into the proper location but will otherwise be the same. the rear XJ shaft will be a foot or so too short for an MJ. what gear ratio is in your MJ's current axles?

you just need a winter beater that won't make you cry when it falls apart. because they all fall apart eventually.

you can easily drop a few more pounds and not worry about the bead. the tires should be flexing and grabbing, not bouncing. get yourself a gauge!

it's going to be a bumpy road. it took a bit to get my uncle dialed in, but he hasn't had an episode in many, many years now. I just wasn't expecting bumps due to "doctor shuffling".

heavy duty springs, heavy duty shocks, heavy duty rear axle, steel wheels. if you're lucky it might have a small rear window sticker or even maybe the coveted emblem that designated it as a "Big Ton" or Metric Ton.
