I had the exact same thing happen to the AX-15 in a YJ.

I am just appalled at the lack of coverage and general concern you guys are getting in comparison to the Hurricanes. These are all serious events. I hope all in harm's way, regardless of where you are, stay safe and well.

Factory tow hooks and lower air dam
87Warrior replied to schardein's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't think their is a mobile work around for photobucket...yet. These are the images Don posted in the aforementioned thread. -
I'd like a mobile fix as well! Though it doesn't seem like mobile browsers allow for extensions. I spent a fair amount of time rebuilding my 86 build here on CC this weekend. This took way to long and if the photos I attached to the post ever disappear, I'm giving up.

I was hoping for more than the Gladiator Concept we saw in 2004, but it is exactly what I thought it would be. I'd like to drive one. If the diesel variant blows the ZR2 babymax out of the water, I'll consider it after somebody else eats the depreciation for a few years

Hey Ryan, what ever came of the truck inspection? One thing is certain, you cannot buy a clean truck, build it to that level, replace parts, repaint and add mods for less than $13k. The problem is, mods generally don't add to the value of a vehicle. I think its overpriced for my area, but if I was looking for a clean MJ I'd be inclined to take a look with $10k in my pocket. I was bothered by a few things in the pictures. - No visors - Driver side parking brake cable looks like it is pulled real tight - Firewall looks to be blue with silver overspray in the corner (this would be my biggest reservation about the truck) Honestly, I'd just like to know how the personal inspection went!

More 1986 MJ 4x4 2.5 L. Clutch parts issues.
87Warrior replied to Dogote's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think that Omix Ada listing has the MJ and XJ mistakenly listed as compatible vehicles (the vehicle years don't make sense). However, the 86 MJ is a unique bird and I am not really sure where it's clutch release design came from. If you can find a part number stamped on your cracked fork you may be able to track down the appropriate fork. As I mentioned in the other thread, I recommend upgrading to the 94+ XJ external set up. These are not a one-off design and parts are easy to come by. The parts Jeep Driver is offering will completely update your truck.- 10 replies

2.5L Throttle Body studs
87Warrior replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thank you for the part number help Don! Even though I didn't find replacement studs, the part number led me to the correct thread/pitch and was able to use a die to save the stud. Now I'm just waiting to get the head back from the machine shop. -
Boy, that is a nice looking MJ. Congrats on the purchase.

I am in the process of refurbishing the top end of my '86 2.5L and have run into a snag. I need to find a source for the (4) studs that screw into the intake manifold that the throttle body is bolted down with. Any ideas where to buy those or tips on what to search for when shopping? :dunno: Thanks!

Some late '99's had the 0331 head and coil pack ignition (distributorless). I've only seen one in the flesh. Most have a distributor and the 0630 head.

It was nothing more than a cloudy day in Central, KS. It gets darker around here when a storm rolls through than it did with 98% totality, such a disappointment. I was looking forward to the 1PM "night time" :dunno:

Welcome to the rabbit hole of Comanche ownership! Coincidentally I almost traded my old Yamaha Wolverine for a Comanche in 2008. I wish I had done it since the ATV doesn't get used but twice a year these days.

I had a Uniden 510 in that same spot. I removed it because I would kick the back of the radio anytime I wore boots and it was hard to hear with the downward facing speaker. Replaced the Uniden with an all-in-one Midland 75-822 and use it whenever a CB required.

I've all but abandoned CB yet still have a handheld and magnetic antenna to use for trail runs where a CB is required. Sometimes I'll even tune the CB to 17 during harvest and listen to the farmers talk with the grain elevator... A $15 ham license and $40 for a Baofeng handheld radio lets me reach somebody nearly anywhere across Kansas thanks to an awesome linked repeater system. My wife appreciates being able to keep track of me via APRS when I head out to Colorado for a week or so of exploration.

Maybe you would be interested in something like SDR Touch since you are only wanting to listen. You could potentially hear much more than the 11m CB band. I find CB to be worthless on road trips unless passing by a big city. http://sdrtouch.com I have a tuner/antenna to use SDR Touch, but my ancient Android won't connect to it so I haven't tried to use SDR Touch yet. My primary goal with this set up was to visually scan the 1m and 70cm ham band while on the road or in a new area.

I am pretty sure there was a build, or at least a detailed write up, of that red 91 posted here on CC a (long) while back.

A few years ago I led a group of TJ's down the well known Black Bear Pass in Colorado with my rusted out '86 MJ. I came down the steps, completed the first switchback and stopped for a hiker who had just turned around after photographing the water feature at the mine structure. This Ivy League loooking hiker approached my open window with a bewildered look on his face and asked, "Did that f@&ing thing just come down the steps?!?!" I smiled and nodded while my passenger (who affectionately loves beat down old Toyota pickups) simply burst into a fit of laughter. Coincidentally, the same passenger and I just went down Black Bearin my 100 Series Land Cruiser this past Friday and reminisced about that day in the MJ. The Ivy League looking hikers didn't seem bothered by a luxury SUV coming down the pass... I mention that story because I believe we 'diss' our trucks the same way the general public perceives them. The difference? We cherish the truck for what it is and do whatever it takes to keep the MJ on the road. The 'dissing' is simply the truth we intentionally ignore.

That guys work gave me hope for the future of electric cars....the big manufacturers haven't done the same. http://driveev.com/jeepev/home.php

Hub bearings 99 XJ
87Warrior replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Match the correct rotor to the wheel bearing and you will be okay :) -
...some of us were already paying $30-40 a year for extra storage and removed future payments for the additional storage and deleted thousands of photos to get under the 'free' account limit. The financial figure for this would be interesting to see.

The rub rails look well built, nicely executed and clean. I am in the camp of folks who would not install such a product on my rig, but that is because I don't push my rigs to the point of needing something like that. Those rails would be the perfect spot to hang a hammock from when camping.

Great story. I bet the drive was very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing!

I had been a paying PB user since 2008 (member since 2003) and they still killed my posted photos. Maddening. Needless to say, they won't get another penny from me. I will do my best to restore photo links in any post I've made, but it will take time. We must rebuild! I haven't tried using Google Photos yet, but it seems like a possibility, albeit a bit clunky. https://ctrlq.org/google/photos/?_ga=2.191803311.446482463.1499663096-1879167503.1499663096
