  1. have you tried cleaning out the throttle body area yet (including the idle controller) with a toothbrush and TB cleaner?
  2. v8s are notoriously difficult to keep cool in MJ/XJs. we have a relatively small radiator size. It's not a deal killer in and of itself (v8 swaps have been done), but something to keep in mind while you're planning.
  3. do you want your old account back?
  4. unfortunately they sit pretty much where the guys left them so many months ago. :( the 90 stll needs wiring done, the 88 needs little things all over (especially that special and expensive new track bar bolt that I lost around here somehow :fs1: ). I'm going to be in and out of Georgia for the next month, but once I'm back in michigan I'm going to get one of them running enough to go wheeling.
  5. if left to my own devices... but neohic was kind enough to weld in something a bit stiffer than duct tape.
  6. WJ arms: same length as MJ arms, just needs the steel bushings trimmed a bit While I was there I nipped a bit of the arms and off the axle for maximum articulation.
  7. no paint scuffs here :dunno:
  8. front is IFS so that won't do you much good. but the rear 44 is a great match to the grand wagoneer front axle. same width and bolt pattern. you'll need to get the grand waggy axle regeared though.
  9. I seem to remember that you might need to have your flywheel rebalanced depending on which you go with. and the peugeot won't bolt to a 2.8/2.5.
  10. even better. I found a video. :D
  11. the gauges usually die because of a broken solder connection on the back of the cluster. very common problem. had to fix that on my 97. I'll see if I can find the link that helped me.
  12. bummer. too big to put in my sig. :rotf:
  13. I see it too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0810590299
  14. it's that blotchy red stuff you see on pics of the midwestern trucks. :rotf:
  15. careful with those bolts if you live in a rust-prone zone. they like to snap right off with no warning. :( spraying PB Blaster inside the frame to get at the threads is a must.
  16. that's great!
  17. or it could be the most awesome thing EVER!!! :D
  18. factory front mounts suck. they are only good for hold up an bumper and waiting for a crash. no good at all for yanking on to get you out of the mud. rear mounts are a bit better, but I did the same thing for mine, front and rear. I know there are aftermarket rear brackets out there. don't remember who made them though. these are the ones I built, but I imagine you can get aftermarket ones by now. (bent by the same shop from which I bought the steel) this shot was taken during mockup so the pin hole for the hitch hasn't been drilled yet. built my own clevis thingie. :D and I put the pin on the backside. My truck will never tow, so I built everything to work together, not caring if it might not work with aftermarket stuff. If you want to use aftermarket stuff, you'll need to take that into account. also, be very mindful of the square tubing you use. towing hitches flop around a bit in regular 2x2 tube. fine for offroad-only stuff, but less than perfect for towing. try to get your hands on the receiver-specific stuff if you intend to tow.
  19. oh, I saw "WJ" and didn't notice the "98". 98s are ZJs and require no trimming. 99+ would be WJs and the steel bushings are slightly wider than MJs.
  20. big pipe wrenches have been used, as have used ratchet straps. I assume you trimmed the steel bushings on the LCAs?
  21. I really like mine. brutishly simple and tough. :D built them with essentially an angle grinder and a drill, then had a local welder finish them up for 20 bucks. 2" hitch in the middle of both, 1/4" steel for the brackets. grille guard is from a CJ.
  22. as nice as that would be, sadly no. gears need to be "set up" to run properly (a quick search for that should give you the details). it's not cheap, and not really good for beginners to tackle. one of the few things that I will happily leave to the pros. But that's not to say that i won't go out of my way to avoid paying for it. :D I prefer junkyard axles with the gears already in them. way cheaper and way easier. :) (unless you're looking for a ratio that doesn't exist out there)
  23. doesn't matter much since he put a reserve on it. :dunno:
  24. :fs2:
  25. good to know. I had been told different. thanks! any difference in the 10.5 between early suerduties and later superduties? do Excursions have the same 10.5?
