Jeeper (1/11)

  1. Ok my mj has a 2.5 4 speed . Lots of blow by leaking oil everywhere. I was wanting to do a diesel conversion . However I can not seem to tear apart my mercedes to rob the engine So I have the following (seeking some input ) 89 laredo parts jeep . Have not started the engine . A 305 sbc compete in a 2 wheel drive . 4.3 out of early 80s pick up . Jeep would be a driver mainly during weekends and winter . Do I just rebuild the 2.5 or ? Or do I find another om617 and do a divorced transfer case ? I am not rich by no means . However I can sell things to make a deal happen . And as far as being able to do any of the swaps myself . I have done several over the last 35
  2. Ok going to replace the 3rd tracker bar in 3 years on the mj . I live in the country off of gravel .A one mile drive with a low water crossing ( daily driver for the wife ) commute . It is not used for 4 wheeling . It is just driven as any other car truck I have. I have noticed tonight it needs sway bar bushing . Which I will pick up tomorrow along with the tracker bar from Oreily's again. It wears out at the axle bushing every time . Since the last one I have had to drill out the axle hole for the next size bole as the hole became oblong . Any other items I should be looking at ? TIA
  3. So I have to replace ball joints on the wife's 2000 xj and my 87 mj . Which ball joint press to purchase . I hate to borrow tools even from auto zone. TIA
  4. 87 mj 2,5 to 4.0 Found a 89 xj for 200.00 does not run at present time. Thinking of using it for a engine swap. I do not know what a renix etc is . Would the 89 drive train be a good candidate for this ? Also I do not know as to why . The drivers door ( left ) does not have a key hole cut for it . Was this for ????? And this is a factory door. And as for the engine swap it would be a daily driver , Should I change the camshaft over to a other than stock . Little more hp would be nice . Just do not want to kill mpg at the same time. Will be going with a simple 3 inch lift on the MJ
  5. That looks nice . Cat yellow works well. Getting ready to convert a MJ to 4.0 myself .Thanks for the inspiration
  6. I was looking at a vw tdi swap in the future
  7. I've located a ax5 ( I'am new to all this jeep jargon) complete with clutch flywheel etc no transfer case for 75.00 Guy says it's good from a wrecked commanche. I have a 87 mj with 2.5 and 4 speed. .I'am wanting to do a diesel conversion on it in the future. Should I buy it up .
  8. Well looks like it will be removing the yoke tomorrow . I like the u bolt conversion as well . I'll have to see if O reily's or Autoidiots have the u bolt kit . Will say one thing I was able to do a search and get my MJ front axle working . Had to do the flip the fork on the vacuum actuated shift motor trick . I was able to pick up a pto cable ( $5.00) for doing the cable conversion when the weather gets better . Thanks for the good info . As I live out on 40 acres with a low water crossing and a 1 mile driveway . That now has over 10 inches of snow with another 4-6 more coming sunday .
  9. Will check into changing to regular u bolts tomorrow . I hate those darn bolts it come with .
  10. Ok I was installing the drive shaft in the front axle . When I broken one of the bolts off in the front yoke . As I've never taken one off before . Is it just take the big ( looks like a 11/8 to me ) nut off and install another one .Or does it have a effect on the pinion dept and have to be reset. I'll be fixing it tomorrow as we are getting a bit more snow ( kansas city) thanks in advance
  11. well found out toyota corolla diesel 1984 uses other tranny bolt pattern then toy pu so no easy swap . also was upin the barn and remembered I have a 188d from a case loader . The 2.5 has really bad blow by and low end rattle at over 50 mph . so will have to go with something soon . Do have a 2.5 but was from a front wheel drive chevy . And do not know if it has same bolt pattern As would prefer to go diesel due to free fuel . Just picked up another 20 gal of wvo today .
  12. here goes first post and cool site. I have a 122 ci toyota diesel engine in good condition. Also have a rusted to heck 85 f250 4x4 diesel . Do I put the toyota engine in the mj 4x4 . Or put the mj on the f250 chassis ? Has anyone fitted a mj to a ford 4x4 chassis around here. The 2.5 in the 1987 4 speed mj is worn out 256k on it and lots of low end rattle at 55 mph. Reason I want to go diesel is cost of fuel . As I have over 3k gals.of clean WVO at this time.
