Can Spell Comanche

Can Spell Comanche (2/11)

  1. Removed and checked the 02 censor. Disconnecte and reconnected the CPS. I run a business aside from working on an oil rig so time spent on my ride is money lost. I lost daylight and gotta load the truck for work tomorrow so the best I can do is pray that my mechanic knows how to use a tester and check everything without me having to replace 1k worth of parts only to end up selling my truck(that still doesn't run right) for scrap price. Thanks guys-but I think I'm screwed. I've lived here for 10 yrs and canot seem to find a good mechanic-one that can acrually diagnose a problem without just changing parts until the problem is alieved.>Chris
  2. Is the output at the tailpipe a reliable indicator? I can redline it in neutral. I just removed and blew out the IAC with throttle body cleaner. As of now my mechanic has replaced the TPS to the tune of $235. I shopped the part and am not happy but he's done right by me before so I'll take the hit this time. He won't take my money because it's not fixed but bottom line is in 2 days I have to report to work 5 1/2 hrs away and my truck is my ONLY source of transportation. If I can't make it to work then I don't have a job. I'm trying to avoid the easter egg hunt approach-as in replacing 55+ dollar parts one at a time hoping to eliminate the problem. I thought it could be the catalytic converter too but 3 people so far said no. Should I just remove it and replace it before my next inspection to see? I can't weld good enough to do the job so it will be more money out of pocket on a fishing expedition.
  3. Ok fellas, the ol girl has thrown me a curve again and I need help. My mechanic just diagnosed it as a TPS and it didn't fix it. I drive 5 1/2 hrs to my new job every 14 days and then 60 per dayround trip to and from the oil rig. My 4.0 MJ started breaking up bad to the rig last trip. Losing power-the more I tried to excellerate the more power I seemed to lose. It got to the point where I couldn't get above 5mph on an incline. I changed the fuel filter. Blew out the vacuum lines with carb cleaner, ran gas treatment through the tank-4 tanks now-all 94 octane. It got slightly better and I was able to sustain 55-65 mph for most of the 5 1/2 hr trip home-actually now closer to 7 hrs. I love the ol girl and really don't want to let her go. I have 4 days til I head back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Thanks guys-hdn't thought that it could be a brake issue and the truck has had a noticable los of power. I wouldn't doubt if the e break cables or linkage were twisted or binding due to the impact somehow. I will for sure have time tomorrow to get it figured out. Wheel bearings this weekend and maybe a 2 inch lift and new shocks too if a friend comes through.
  5. Hey all. Did my first hitch in the oil fields and my little red MJ took a beatin. I was on a $hitty ranch road, got dusted by a semi and hit a BIG speed bump because I didn't see it. I looked my truck over and aside from a flat and I'm pretty sure busted shocks(they were original anyway my guess)-I didn't find anything busted or twisted. But I do smell clutch now. Do you think I might have busted a tranny mount? Would that cause the clutch to slip. As stated before, I am no shade tree mechanic. I'm getting better at maintenance and repair but my diagnostic skills are still nil. Any help would be great. Also-the truck sits as it came off the factory and I want to lift it 2 inches in the future even though it's 2wd-should I just buy a set of gabriel or monroe shocks til then-any pros or cons to common auto part store shock absorbers? I'm doing alot of ranch road travelling to and from the oil rig and I'm sure new shocks are in short order. Thanks in advance for any advice>Chris
  6. Hey, there's another 89 on Austin CL. I'm going to look at it I hope he can be talked into a straight trade for mine. Mine's an eliminator 5 sp and his is a base model with an auto. Good trade? About the same mileage-he claims a lot of work has recently been done. What do you guys think. I haven't set forth the proposition yet.
  7. OK so my 89 liminator DD shows signs of living it's life in the Texas sun. The roof of the cab and the hood is hail damaged. I am planning on attempting to do the bodywork and paint myself but am looking for resources on how to. Is there an alternative to bondo? I was told that it causes rust and my truck is 100% rust free so I don't see the point of using it. I've googled the dry ice trick but wonder how long 30-40 hail bumps will take me and what sucess I'll have. Thanks in advance guys-you are a treasure trove of info.>Chris
  8. Enjoy your new toy. Romanian AK's are a good value. I may be wrong, but I was told that no Russian AK's were to be sold in the US. The main drawback of the Romie's is the sights may not be straight-you can fix that yourself with a drift and a hammer. The AK is not target rifle but it's the best at what it was made for-it will go bang everytime you pull that trigger-in most any environment.
  9. As much as I know I need to watch my mouth as a Yankee living in Texas-people in this state are just ridiculous when it comes to pricing trucks in particular. I wish my truck was as shiny as this one but I wouldn't trade my MJ that I've had for almost 2 years now without a problem once I got the bugs worked out. Shiny is nice but I need a truck to get me there-and back.
  10. ytpe jeep commanche into Austin CL search. It's actually in San Antonio but they want WAAAAAY to much for this truck in my opinion.
  11. PostingID: 3198397989-hope that works. Only difference between this and my 1500 dollar 89 eliminator is the 7,500 dollar paint job I guess.
  12. I own a 63 Pan/Shovel chopper. My first child basically. You really wouldn't believe waht it's cost me but anywayeverything is for sale right? Some guy aksed me as such one time and I gave him the old for a stupid price line-well he had a stupid price in mind-$3k-for a mint 1963 Harley that runs like a scalded dog. I just told him I didn't literally mean stupid and walked away.
  13. Good deal congrtats on the newest toy.
  14. Congrats to you and your daighter. Sounds like you've raised good kids.
