  1. the truth remains that it likely won't be cheap, and it sure ain't going to be easy. certainly not in this insane heat. :ack: I would source a donor Jeep of the same era. and I'd convert to the newer r-134 at the same time.
  2. my 2 cents: MJ bench seatbelts and MJ bucket seatbelt are different. and I'm assuming MJ bucket seatbelts are the same as XJ seatbelts. just an fli for anyone raiding the junkyards
  3. what were you cutting with?
  4. if your truck is stock height, you are pretty much limited to factory Jeep rims from an MJ/XJ/YJ/TJ/KJ/ZJ
  5. or you can just leave your fenders right where they are. there's only a minor difference between new and old fenders.
  6. 10 inches is a wiiiiiide rim. won't work, sorry. too wide for your tires and even if you got wider tires, they will smash your fenders up pretty good.
  7. My leafs flexed from one maximum to the other, no problemo. even had an extra main leaf shoved in there to help reduce spring-wrap. My personal view is that a many guys are running a front end that's a bit too flexy for most terrains. and combine that with almost no weight over the rearend, you get an unbalanced system. but either way, before going all gung-ho on fabbing in new leafs, find the spring rates of both and compare.
  8. yup.
  9. cleaned up.
  10. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
  11. 54... 57... one of those numbers 'round there... :rotf:
  12. d'oh. I knew that too. stupid brain :fs2: MJs leafs are only like 54 inches long so the chevys would be too long.
  13. what's a chevy 63?
  14. strong chain works fine for SLOW extractions, like if you simply get highcentered on a mound of dirt. a good strap is still better. and never ever get a running start with chain.
  15. tow hook brackets can be purchased for the front. remember that the more stuck you get, the more you risk damage trying to get it back out.
  16. 1-solid and strong extraction points front and rear. 2-rear locker. 3-rocker guards (you're even closer to the ground than stock 4wds)
  17. I sure hope it's not one of those too-good-to-be-true things. like if they did all that work and found a cracked block or something awful. Here's hopin' it's all good.
  18. neat :D
  19. I call it my driveway. :D
  20. it's the bushing in the track bar (on the axle end).
  21. I do believe he's out of town for a few days. can't remember which days they were, but I bet that's why he hasn't replied yet.
  22. I love junkyards. :D
  23. I wouldn't plan on using the axles from a 4.0/stick. they will have 3.07s. your current rear should have 3.55s, so you can keep that and grab a front from a 4.0/auto XJ from the junkyard. easy. :D to swap to a 4.0 you will need to change pretty much everything, harness and all. a good running donor is the way to go.
  24. pucks + shackles + 31s = :D
  25. I would use this as an opportunity to upgrade the ratios. 3.55s are VERY common in XJs and so if you can get a 44 with 3.55s, it's a snap to swap out the front axle as well. you'll be happier with the 3.55s. I promise.
