  1. 4.0 AX-15 to TDi adapter kit from Randy at TD Conversions. This dude (Randy) is active on the boards and has supplied adapters for quite a few completed swaps out there. My actual conversion is still a ways out but this is the biggest single puzzle piece. Gotta slowly acquire the rest as finances allow.
  2. Got her all painted up and installed the brace kit and steering box. I haven't driven it enough to really note much of a difference though. Peace of mind at least. Darn the luck, looks like I'll have to fab a new front bumper for her now... I do like the "stubby" look on XJ/MJs...
  3. The truck has been making lots of pops and creaks in the steering box region since the SOA and new tires; my suspicion was the usual broken aluminum spacer and/or tearing frame. After much deliberation I decided to get the JCR steering box brace kit. If this doesn't suit my fancy later on I can always sell it and go with something else (I really wanted a sector shaft support of some kind but wasn't impressed with the available options). To my pleasant surprise this is what I found: Crazy, right?!
  4. Well I knew the Atlas was pricey but damn! Even the 2 speed is gonna push $3k
  5. I've been dying to make use of the 231 and/or 247 that have been sitting in my basement for a decade... but by the time you buy somebody's kit, shifters, new prop. shafts, an SYE, and all the other bs you're bound to need you're in for damn near $1,500 I really wonder if I should try and make my own... Anyways good luck with your decision. Sounds like there's plenty of options.
  6. This is gonna be one bad rig! Waiting to see what you do for the upper part of your driver's floor (where the replacement pan doesn't cover).
  7. That is gorgeous!
  8. Will be watching this very closely...
  9. Bummer. In the meantime keep updates coming!
  10. Any of the finished product? I've been dealing with the consequences of my cave-man fender trimming for years now and haven't decided how to do it. Best I've come up with so far is completely removing the outboard half of the inner fenders and working them with an English wheel or something.
  11. Have any more pictures of this?
  12. I'll assume this switch threads into the factory location... got an application and/or part number?
  13. PM sent!
  14. The piece I had was just big enough to fit the bolt pattern (16" dia) but not enough to give the bell much of anything to actually be drawn up against. Your pictures showed the outside of the bellhousing is 17.5" to 18" in diameter. So close!
  15. Makes sense; thanks for the insight.
  16. Some quick research on that Audi 2.0 (known as the EA831) indicates that it does not share the bolt pattern of the EA827 (which I think is what even the current TDi engines are based upon).
  17. Boy that sounds like an impossibly hard to find combination of parts even if it does happen to share a pattern... plus I would need there to be manual trans. parts. I have heard the same with the 72+ AMC engines several times now.
  18. Although I have not personally verified, this is the TDi side of things:
  19. Multiple sources have stated that the 4.0 bellhousing bolt pattern is identical to all AMC V8s; if that is indeed true I used these images to do a quick n dirty check: This is the piece I scored and the quick tape measure markings I made from the two above drawings: (I did not make the existing holes) If you can't tell from the picture, the bolts themselves will be very near the edge of this plate... my gut says its just barely too small, but I just HAVE to know for sure!
  20. Pm on the way
  21. The adapter I'm wanting to make? No not really I suppose, It'll be making the rear of the TDi mimic the rear of a 4.0. I just had a 16" diameter piece of 6061 land in my lap yesterday and I want to know if it's big enough for the actual outside dimensions of the bell.
  22. Interested if anyone has a spare or leftover internal slave AX-15 bellhousing lying around they'd like to part ways with, loan out, or donate. Looking into making my own engine adapter and want to avoid removing my trans just for dimensions... worth a shot!
