You know...my 2.5 runs a lot better now that the hose clamps on the fuel filter are tight....

Photobucket is better for hosting...but not for storage since they re-size. Nobody wants 1024x768 pics on a forum topic anyway...so that's why photobucket is nice.

I saw a Cali 89 XJ with over 500k on the original engine and tranny, all it ever got was a new gasket set and I believe new rings.

Tighten up your mufflometer too.

I know what you mean. My brother had his extra Ax-15 from his 92 XJ sitting in the back of his 89 XJ...then sold the 89 for like $600 I think. He seemed to have just forgotten it was in the back, even though he knew I needed it. I wouldn't have been so upset about it if he had at least charged extra for it.

Not sure...I had a big thread on gathering info for mine a long time ago. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5942 I also noticed something in your sig. A 4.7 stroker is going to demolish a BA 10/5.

Well crap. I want my hat! :P

It wouldn't be the clutch, the newer the clutch, the lower the catch point. It's probably the slave. Try bleeding again, but you may end up needing a new slave. You've got an internal slave, so it's gonna be expensive and the transmission has to come out to do it. If you do need to replace it, I would look into converting to an external slave setup.

The ratios are slightly different, yes, but that's insignificant. The Ax-5 was used behind the 2.5 4cyl, the 2.8 V6, and the 2.1 Turbo Diesel. It's a light-duty transmission and it couldn't handle the power of a 4.0. The Ax-15 is a medium-duty transmission, and can handle a lot more. The gears I believe are slightly thicker, and the transmission itself is longer. The Ax-15 was put behind the 4.0 because the 4.0 would just burn up Ax-5s. So yes, the Ax-15 is the better transmission, however the only way to get it behind a 2.5 or 2.8 is using a 93+ 4cyl dakota bellhousing (Dodge started putting the Ax-15 behind their 4cyls), and you'll be dealing with a lot of fabrication there. The Ax-5 can handle those two motors just fine. And... Ax-5 1st - 3.93 2nd - 2.33 3rd - 1.45 4th - 1 5th - 0.85 R - 4.74 Ax-15 1st - 3.83 2nd - 2.33 3rd - 1.44 4th - 1 5th - 0.79 R - 4.22

Isn't it just held up by a ginormous wing nut?

Uh..yeah. I ran my 4.0 in my 88 XJ out of oil a few times...still ran fine when I junked the truck. Bearings looked like crap when I tore it apart, but it ran fine and would still smoke 235/75R15s with a pukey and 3.07s...sooo...

Yeah. The one I grabbed the tranny from had thrown a rod, and my neighbor (also my ex's parents) have a 88 Toy truck with the 22RE, I've been telling him for months that he's got a really bad ticking valve, but he won't do anything about it. Maybe he will when he sinks it... The problem with Toyota motors is they over-engineer everything, so that brand new they make a lot of power, but once the bearings even begin to wear down or you get a little dust in the oil, everything goes to hell.
-
Funny...I just posted up on Marlin a w56 that was behind a 22RE... But yeah...Toyota junk.

I work in a plastic factory. I don't see how it's "cheaper" to make new ones. Of course they make new ones. A good portion of what we make is made up of reground material, i.e. excess plastic that comes out of the mold, bad parts, etc. You don't re-sell the old containers, you wash them, they get ground up into material the size of pebbles, and then re-melted and made into new containers. Throwing them into the landfill is pointless. Anything that's plastic can be reused. Granted, for food containers specifically, the place I work at wouldn't use them, because the stuff we make isn't made from that type of material. If the recycling plants would just wash them and sort it, then they could sell it to plastic companies.

Another Reason I hate BA-10 (Pukes)
Geonovast replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've got one. If you come up and get it, it's yours. -
You'd have to stick with the cable type, just fyi. The entire cluster is different from the Renix to the Chrystler systems, they even use a different plug.
-
lol no we weren't outside, we were in his shop, and I had my other truck. This I did like a week and a half later :P

Pete...isn't trhe driveshaft rotation amount cut in half with doing only one tire? The spider setup would do that. I would recommend getting both rear tires off the ground, and turn the driveshaft by hand.

Changing gauge cluster question
Geonovast replied to LJRockstar's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As long as it has the cable speedo I believe you should be ok. The speedo itself is swappable too, so you can keep your current odometer setting, but you won't get the tripometer that comes with the full cluster. apparently The 4 or 6cyl matters for the accuracy of the tach, although my 91 4cyl has a cluster from a 92 6cyl and the tach works just fine. -
Manuals and automatics used the same console.

How did my MJ not burn up ... ??
Geonovast replied to BLHTAZ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Simple. Magic. But yeah you're very lucky. When we tore apart the first house I lived in there were bundles of wires that looked a lot like that sitting in the insulation in the attic. -
I have a '91 Pioneer.
