  1. I'll try to dig out my renix TB tomorrow and take a look at it.
  2. Try posting a pic so we know exactly what you're talking about.
  3. The manual to auto swap is a little bit of work... so if you're really set on using an auto go for it, but IMHO you'll be better off finding a manual. If you do use the auto, you will not need a new column or linkages or anything. Just use the floor shift kit from the cherokee. Most guys go from the column shift to the floor shift, cause the column shift sucks. The dash between the XJ and your MJ are completely identical. The door panels will only be identical if the cherokee is a 4 door. Front doors of a 4 door cherokee are the exact same as comanche doors. Only a few of the other panels will be the same though.
  4. If you pull the shifter out and do, say, body work, COVER UP THE HOLE. The last thing you want is little bits of steel falling into your transmission.

    Getting there

    Very nice work!
  6. Yes the transmission is the same. But KEEP YOUR 44. The 35 is junk. Most likely that 30/35 combo will be geared 3.55 and your 44 is 3.07, so you'll end up re-gearing one way or another. The question you need to ask yourself is.... Would you rather find yourself a manual or deal with swapping it over to an auto?
  7. It's the bolts that hold the actual shifter assembly on. Image Not Found See how there's three holes on his BA 10/5? Those are for the bolts that hold the shifter on. You have to take off the top shifter boot, then the console, then the bottom boot to get at it. IIRC, the BA 10/5 also has another stupid little cover that hides the bolts. Either way, the BA shifter thinger is round, and the AX-15 is rectangular.
  8. If your ball joints are really bad it could, but it's more likely a tierod end or you just need an alignment.
  9. Do not run synthetic. Hopefully it is just leaking from that hole....and if it's been leaking, it's probably getting low... so that could explain your noises.
  10. I think we're just lucky. Good production run. Maybe the drunk called in sick that day...who knows? I used to smoke 27 in tires on 3.07s with the crappy 3.39 first in that thing and never burned it up.... Did it in the 89 too and I never damaged that tranny either.
  11. The BA 10/5 really isn't that bad if you just DD it. My 88 XJ had one and the only problem it gave me, is that it would occassionally pop out 1st when starting out if you didn't hold the shifter forward. Had 187k on it when I got it, put 20k on it myself, beat it up pretty good, and it never blew up.
  12. If he's re-gearing a 3.07 axle to 4.56, he's gonna need a new carrier too.
  13. Easiest way, without pulling the tranny or getting under the truck, is to pull the center console out and look at the shifter. Peugot has 3 bolts that hold it on. Ax-15 has 4. Since yours in an 88, if it's the original tranny you'll have the Peugot. 89 was the transition year.
  14. cool... guess I'll rig something up then, maybe a beaker bottle stopper with a hole in it.. but I WANT A AX-15!!! sell me yours!!! :brows: Lol...I'll give you my 2wd Ax-15 if you give me a 4wd one.
  15. To clarify: Aisin Ax-5 Jeep 5 speed transmission used behind the 2.8 V6, 2.5 4 cyl, and 2.1 Turbo Diesel 4 cyl. Aisin Ax-15 Jeep 5 speed transmission used behind the 4.0. Aisin w54 and w58 are Toyota versions of the Ax-5, and the w56 is a Toyota cousin of the Ax-5 Aisin R151 is what I pictured for the 2wd, and that's a Toyota cousin of the Ax-15. The Peugot Ba 10/5 was only used behind the 4.0, and yes it did have 2wd and 4wd versions.
  16. Back of a 4wd trans looks like this...the big circle with the bolt holes for the t-case 2wd looks like this(not an Ax-15, but a cousin of it.) And no, you can't just get a new back housing for it, the internals(output shaft) are different.
  17. It doesn't plug into the bellhousing, it just opens to the air, hence 'vent'. It just has a clip thing that goes on one of the bellhousing to motor bolts.
  18. Yes for internals the slave and throwout is one piece.
  19. Pics? And yes... my blue truck is a 2wd with an AX-15
  20. If you got one with 4x4, 4.0 5 speed, you would have everything you need except a rear driveshaft. The Cherokee's will be too short, so you'll need your 2wd either shortened, or find a MJ one.
  21. lol
  22. They used the Peugot BA 10/5 behind the 4.0 from 87-mid 89. Ax-15 from 89-99, and 00-01 was one of the NV trannies. The Ax-15 will bolt up to your 4.0, but make sure you get the correct pilot bearing.
  23. Nothing wrong with 3.55s Pete :P Question...why are you parting out the 2.5 MJ? You don't have to use a Comanche for the conversion, you can probably find a junk Cherokee with everything you need for faily cheap. All you'll be able to use from the 2.5 is the front axle, and you'll need to re-gear one of them, the handle and maybe the T-case.
  24. They were not on my 1991. But it's easy to figure out. 88XJSport, hope you grabbed the front air diffuser piece too from the donor. The MJ diffuser w/o a console doesn't work. That confused me. Also, I've never seen an XJ that didn't already have a center console.
  25. I'm...confused. Are you putting it in an XJ or MJ?
