CC history lesson

This forum has been around for a long time. It’s pretty quiet nowadays but I’m wondering if, in the past, there were any major infighting or some troublesome members? I feel like there has to have been a fair share of trolls and bad actors that have found their way into the forum throughout the decades.

Cruiser and Hornbrod used go back-n-forth about Renix v. HO.  I hope it was all in good fun...but reading the threads, I wondered if they would come to blows in person.

There was a member that used to throw comments that were either off topic or the advice was incorrect.  I recall Hornbrod replying with requests for support for the suggestions.  The member would either: change the subject, not reply, or come back with an "Oh, Yeah!!"  Other members stop replying to his posts.  I have not seen him on here in few years.

This forum is pretty good compared to several others.  I wasn't here in the early days to know if it was bad back then.  But I've been on forums since the late 90s.

A lot of it has to do with the regular forum members and their tolerance for shenanigans.  Also, the members here have solid technical knowledge and the advice here is pretty solid most of the time.

I'm active on some other forums and they're a lot more "fun" but the technical advice isn't always reliable.

I remember some stuff. That’s all I’m going to say.

Awwww come on. Enlighten us newbies

Edit: I’ll buy your set of Bosch fogs and a passenger sun visor (charcoal) in a few months if you tell us!

In the better part of a decade, I can only recall two people that seemed to be troublesome. There may have been others, but I can think of two for sure.

For the most part, this forum has been pretty great and pretty much everyone at least tolerates each other, with most people getting along like old friends.

Lol! Bribery.

Honestly, I think bringing up any negativity this forum has had isn’t for the best. Those who have been here long enough know who those were and probably would like to do the same about not saying anything. It’s one of those leave the sleeping dog lie. I’m all for letting the forum keep its reputation of a good natured place rather than one to talk smack about some who aren’t even on here anymore. I think that’s the last thing I want the Jeep/AMC community to see about us.

Well said and very true. I definitely didn’t want my question to come off that way, I was just interested in some more interesting bits of the forums history

If you want that, you should ready through some of the older build threads and MJOTM posts.

Here are some of my favorites. A lot of these have links in signatures to other threads too.

@89 MJ I am shocked my old rust bucket made your list! I sure do miss that truck.

As far as forums go, CC has always seemed pretty level headed to me. I haven't been around since the original yahoo group, but I did join the forum in 2009 prior to buying my first MJ. One thing is for sure, Comanche enthusiasts come from all sorts of different backgrounds so there are bound to be disagreements. It's our love for these old, largely forgotten, trucks that brings us together.

I don't think the slow down in activity here is the result of any infighting, its just what has happened to forums thanks to facebook groups. For me, life had just gotten chaotic and I don't have the time to regularly browse CC like in years past.

There’s a ton of good threads in the archives, unfortunately a lot of the picture links are dead. When you’ve got the time, start at the end of the Projects and Epic Tech sections and work your way forward.

I've always been impressed with CC.  I've belonged to several forums, mostly related to whatever car I own at the time.  I probably have over 10k posts over at Bimmerforums.  M5board is another great forum much like CC.  I've never bothered joining the Honda and Austin Healey forums, the advice and way people conduct themselves just didn't impress me.

My goal in life is always to try to be helpful and make people happy, so if it's evident that I'm not doing that on a forum then I quickly dismiss myself from a conversation.

man do I miss the guys that have passed on.  :(

guys that like to cause trouble quickly tire of CC since I don't allow the drama and that's what they seek.

A leader exhibiting true benevolence! We love you Pete

I don't think CC is quiet, or loosing steam in any measurable way. I commonly look at online users and see how many guests (non members) are actively using the site. Clearly a lot of people are getting good information on here. Especially thanks to all the administrators and moderators.

While logged into CC and searching, it's quite noticeable that only very recent topics/posts/keywords get retrieved. But when using a search engine (like Google) any query with "Jeep Comanche" included always has this forum at the top of the page. I've discovered some real quality info on CC using this reverse method.

Yep something that’s funny is I made a thread a little while back asking about the eliminator wheel center caps with the part number. Now when you look up that part number, my specific thread is near the top, even if you don’t use any other words but the part number

Edit: I am the proud second result if you even just look up "jeep comanche eliminator wheel center caps", first being an ebay listing for them.

I too appreciate the "temperature of the room" here

Level headed folks for sure!

I'm still a lurker on some of the Facebook groups but there still seems to be that level of "trolling Gotcha" actors out there soo when it comes to finding the legit info I need, i still find myself resorting to forums for the good stuff.
