MJ Bumper options

Recommended Posts

I know this is kind of a dead horse but most of the front bumper pics here are from over 10 years ago at this point with a lot of missing pictures, broken links, or discontinued items. I'd like this thread to be a quick reference for those of us looking to modify our front end.

I'm currently considering a BadDadFab BTSB winch mount

Winch: Yes

Prefabricated

BadDadFab

Looks pretty cool and allows a winch mounted without changing the length of the truck. The newest addition is D-rings that stick thru the bumper and tie back to the unibody giving you a nice anchor point. $400 plus shipping seems pretty reasonable too.

This looks sick. If I did anything to mine it would be something like this.

i made a new subframe out of a 6" c channel. just a basic setup to build off of. added a winch plate and been running for a few years now. not the pretty but functional way of how i build my rig. when get to the cage addition it will aide as the base to build the front around.  and was base for spring hangers when i was running leafs. but will make it pretty with tube :grinyes:

3/16" 3x5 box tubing with a CJ bullbar on it and a 2x2 in it (meaning the hitch hole is on the backside).

someday I'll trim the bottom of the outer ends for a bit more ground clearance, but I've changed my mind about angling them back after getting a bit too close to trees.  I prefer that corner to stick out a bit because the trees get even closer if you are angled downhill even just a little bit.

If you like stock looking stuff BadDadFab does a really nice stock front bumper with an integrated winch receiver, and of course, the good ol' Westin/Fey rear bumper. Otherwise, theres JCR, Dirtbound, Ares Fabrication, Hanson and Nates for custom stuff that I know of.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to make a list of available bumpers (front and rear) for a comanche.

I've been looking into this JCR rear bumper but I held off because in their description it says it's not rated for towing. Does anyone have experience with it towing? Safe or not so safe?

https://www.jcroffroad.com/product/MJRC.html

I run that rear bumper and also the JCR vanguard front bumper. Front bumpers are practically limitless since they are just an XJ bumper and oem styles as well as tons of aftermarket options are available. The JCR bumper fits really nice and I do use mine for towing. I’ve towed about 2500lbs with it no problem. It’s just not “rated” for towing. You won’t find many aftermarket bumpers that are unless they went through the process of certifying them.

Is that a bumper with an integral winch mount, or is that just a hidden winch kit for use with a factory bumper?

There's a great couple of pictures of the DBF bumper in my thread above, FYI

Well, it's a hidden winch mounts, but comes with a factory bumper modified with a fairlead and tow eyelets, here's the link, and ignore the big hole, which is there for testing purposes:

Hmm my bad I guess; I thought I read somewhere that you could buy this mount with a pre-made bumper!
