Automan2164
It is with great regret that I found out we lost Peter Lechtanski, known to us as "Worlds Fastest Comanche" last weekend. Peter was a great member and longtime friend of the group. Better known to us as the guy who wanted to make a Comanche fast... Really fast. He was the member behind the Land Speed Record Comanche. Peter's drive to build the best engine brought him to Hesco, where Lee Hurley himself worked with him to test and tune his engine, provide insight, and even reminded all of us that Jeep had a LSR MJ back in the '80's. Peter talked to old Jeep execs, found the truck in Auburn Hills, MI, and they brought it out especially for him (and us by association). It was because of Peter and his persistence that the cover was blown off a big piece of MJ history, and that we found out the Thunderchief still existed. Peter and his son Scott took their truck to the Bonneville Salt Flats and kept us posted all along the way. His thread, and his story, are pinned in our Project MJ's section located here. http://comancheclub.com/topic/11623-the-worlds-fastest-comanche/ Visitation will be on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home, 235 North Main Street, Wauconda. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 31 Park Avenue, Grayslake. Interment will be private. I spoke with Scott a couple times today. He wanted to get a couple MJ parts from me so he could put them on the land speed record truck. They have some family coming in and he wanted to get it back together so he could share it with them. He said him and his dad still had some plans for the truck, but life got in the way. He hopes to be playing with the truck again soon, I'm sure he will keep us updated. "I want the worlds fastest Comanche to be parked in my driveway, and the second fastest Comanche to be in Auburn Hills, MI." HOrnbrod
So sad to hear. I talked with Lee Hurley a couple of times in his shop during Peter's MJ speed record campaign, and Lee himself said he had never met a more intelligent and enthusiastic individual. Coming from gruff old Lee, that was one hell of a compliment.

Automan2164
Very sad news. I remember the meet and greet we had a few years ago when we all met Peter and he took us to his place to show us the truck. Peter was a very kind and great guy, this is very sad news! Yep. I still have the pictures. I remember us all going through the barns. Then Peter invited everyone of us (I think close to 20 members) over to his house to see the LSR truck. He let us climb all over it, ask questions, and entertained us all. Even walked us around his farm to show us all the Jeeps on site, and then came with all of us when we grabbed a bite to eat. Trip over to Peter's (Worlds Fastest Comanche) house. And finally. The group shot. Screen names from left to right.
