I present this: Lets say (hypothetically of course)

I were to give you $10,000 cash with the one condition

you have to purchase one of these three trucks. I'm not

expecting change. Which would you choose? Maybe more

importantly, which would be your last pick?:

* - Assume they all have the "correct" trans, miles, ect...

1) 1992 Eliminator. Professionally stroked motor,

professionally tuned axles and drivetrain. Road legal,

everything has been reconditioned. Custom safety cage

built by a professional. List Price $9500 firm.

2) 1992 Pioneer. Amatuer installed lift, bolt-on performance

mods (headers, injectors, ect...) Chrysler 8.25 Axle swap,

97 4.0L swap, including interior and front end. Basically

every upgrade you can find on the boards. Runs and drives.

List price $6500 firm.

3) 1992 SporTruck. Bone stock. Pretty much exactly as it

rolled off the dealership. Well maintained, runs and drives.

List price $2500 firm.

If I get 10,000 and don't have to give change I'd take the $2500 #3 one just on $ alone.
#3 looks to be a long box though. So, that leads me to #2 . It's red, lifted, short box. Bumpers, wheels and a few other things would have to be changed though. No interest in #1 Motor has been modified. I'm old enough to know I don't get along with engines that have been modified. Oh, and #1 is not road legal in MN (not that #2 is either).

3..........................12. I have no interest in owning another person's project, especially if they've already done the fun stuff (and ESPECIALLY if they've touched anything electrical in nature). If I'm gonna spend the time and money on a truck it's going to be mine down to every single bolt. Only worry I'd have with #3 would be the quality of the repaint, but I could have it professionally repainted with the money left over. I would probably end up building my hypothetical copy of #3 just like I'm building mine, stock-ish but you would never know it wasn't stock. My "ideal" configuration would be 4.0 (easy stroker with the extra money!), AX-15, NP242.

Both 2 and 1 look like they're well built, it's just that I would never actually use them for their built purpose. I'd never abuse a truck to the point that the roll cage would actually be useful. 2 is last because it's much too showy and accessorized for me.

#3 is my favorite and my choice.

#1 is a close contender, but I'd blow the budget replacing the 'custom' touches I find hideous. (Light bar and associated holes, wheels/tires, tint, stickers, smoked signals and I'm sure the interior needs help)

#2 is my last pick. It just doesn't seem clean. Maybe it just the wheels and bumper. 97 XJ also has the ugliest XJ interior of all.

I'd still like any of the three, as they all look rust free. That's a win!

They all look like reasonable prices. The stock one might need to be a little higher depending on mileage and other factors.

#1 - Custom cages are expensive and that can easily be $2,000 worth of work.

#2 - Worth what they are asking for. 1997+ swaps are time consuming and expensive to do.

How does the 97 interior differ from the 98 to 2001?

Number 3 for the win.

Not even remotely interested in an MJ that has been heavily modified and can't easily be returned to factory original configuration.

FWIW, neither #1 nor #2 would be street legal in Connecticut -- but I wouldn't be interested if they were.

For what it's worth, I'm skeptical if #2 has a full '97+ swap don to it. Still has the older doors and mirrors on it.

As for the topic, I'd pick #1 as my truck of choice but only because it's the under dog. If the idea is $10k without getting and change back, then I have a hard time seeing myself throwing away $7500.

The way I read it, He didn't want change back. So if you got the 2500 truck you have the 7500 to do whatever. Maybe I read that wrong? Regardless, please enter my info into the drawing, I'd love a chance at winning any of these fabulous prizes.

How does the 97 interior differ from the 98 to 2001?

HVAC has sliding controls and the two tone color schemes are drab. It's just not my preference ;)

Sorry to obsess on this, and not trying to post jack. But... I went out back and looked at 4 97's a 98, a 99, a 2001 and still don't see what you're talking about. The controls all look the same to me. As for the 2 tone. The ones I have with light gray interior have light gray bolt on parts on the lower of the dash. If it has tan, tan on the lower, if it has black the entire dash was black. What am I not getting here? Was it early 97's that had something odd going on?

Exactly what I was going to post. I have Agate dash and door panels in my 97 converted truck.

You might be right indicating early 97 could have the funny HVAC control. Then again, I could be confusing the 97 TJ and XJ. Of course you can swap agate panels in place of a two tones gray or tan. Most 97's I've come across are in fact two tone, which I don't find attractive.

I would buy 3.  I like the long beds, and most of the mods I would do to make it a capable off-road vehicle would still leave me with cash left in my pocket honestly...although I am sure I could find a way to spend it if I had to lol.  Plus, as others have said, I'm not driving somebody elses project.
