NEVER trust anyone who says "use grade 5 bolts because they are more flexible". If someone you know says that, treat anything else they ever say or have said as being BS too. That little piece of bull$#!& just will not go away and probably has gotten people killed. A grade 5 bolt will have snapped before a grade 8 even begins to deform. Your salesman knows nothing and uses says things like "grade 8 is not good for loads in shear" to make himself sound smart.

What does this have to do with "offending" anyone? It's a humorous show of negative affection. Nothing more to it.

Security and photo hosting (and maybe doing something about these Russian porn spam bots) are all I want. Anything else is just icing on the cake. I hope you don't plan on going full on social media.

I bet you'll find other signs of clutch fluid leakage if you look around the fusebox on the interior. Other common signs are a trail of rust leading directly from the clutch master, and significantly worse rust on the driver side floor than the passenger side. My '89 had exactly the same thing happen to it. The fusebox was a total loss, so I replaced the fusebox with one from an automatic 1990 Cherokee, and it was the same down to individual wire colors. Without fixing the fusebox you'll never see the end of random electrical problems on that truck. I agree with Don - you should find a '91 fusebox or dash harness if at all possible. 91 was a transition year and certain things are unique to that year. Here's what it looked like after I was done:

Your new springs are for the Cherokee. Cherokee springs are shorter and will show up under any search for Comanche springs. No parts store employee will know the difference. AFAIK the only companies that make stock MJ springs are General spring and Hell Creek Suspensions and are only obtained through them. I would return what you have and buy the proper springs before moving mounts. If you don't want to do that, take the main leaf from your old pack and strap it to the new pack. It will sit lower however since the Cherokee springs don't support the weight of the Comanche the same. This sounds like it, although I guess I always assumed that the XJ springs were short enough to not "almost" fit. Guess I've never seen anyone actually say how much shorter the XJ springs are. I'd line up the new springs and the old springs and see how much the difference is. Regardless, it's pretty likely that what you have is actually for an XJ, not an MJ. That's the problem with the back half of our trucks - most of the parts databases just assume MJs use the same parts as XJs when they definitely don't.

Clarification for anyone who reads this later: This is for up to 1990 only. From what I've seen all of the gaskets are long discontinued for us early HO folks :( For 91s and 92s the part numbers for the gaskets are: 56006312 - Evaporator/heater core tubes 56001295 - blower motor housing to firewall 56001196 - fresh air intake, 1991 55035704 - fresh air intake, 1992 Some of the gaskets are still available for 97+ XJs as a kit, P/N 4874069AB. I don't know if any of these will fit older heater boxes. Just from comparing them to my 1991 gaskets I really doubt it. I'm not going to be the one to spend $60 to find out.

It doesn't make me want to poke my eyes out at least. If the bed was a little longer it would look a lot better methinks. The stupid cheesy "easter eggs" turn me off the Renegade though.

Oh hey, I'm going through this exact thing right now! I've been agonizing over this for way too long. You'd be very well advised to at least replace all of the gaskets that seal the box from the firewall. Those are a very common source of water leaks which turns into floor rust. On my 91 there's 4. The one around the heater/AC pipes and the one around the drain tube are about 3/4" thick, the blower motor gasket is about 1-1/8" thick (but you could probably get away with using 1" foam) and the one for the fresh air intake is about 1-1/2" thick. They're all made of pretty fine closed cell foam. I scientifically tested them in my sink and they float even when pushed down and absorb very little water. The issue with using hardware store weatherstripping is that I don't know if any of it will be high enough quality to last very long in a truck, at least for the firewall seals. I also don't know if you can get material thick enough, and if you can't you'd have to layer it up which IMO is inviting trouble. I think you would be just fine using it for the other seals in the box since they're not expected to hold water back, just not for the firewall. That's what I plan to do. You can buy all sorts of foam in different thicknesses and sizes here. I'm strongly considering using cross linked polyethylene foam for my firewall seals. Does anyone with actual experience know if XLPE would hold up? Dunno if the 95 heater box will bolt up, sorry.

Here's something new. If you wanted to put a shaft radio in your XJ back in the 80s, Metra made the kit for you! It says 84-86 but should fit any 84-96 dash. It mostly works, as is typical of these AMC decks. The display goes into "dim" mode about 15 seconds after you turn it on (may not do this when installed in a vehicle, I'll need to check), and sometimes the left channel cuts out if you push on the faceplate just right. I have never had an AMC deck completely fail to power on, but sometimes they come with little finicky problems to keep things interesting. Part of why, until I collect some more service manuals, I don't sell them. I missed a listing for a service manual for the DNRs by about 30 minutes not long ago :doh: I've always wondered what DNR sounded like. It's kind of like Dolby, and to me it sounds kinda like Dolby on tape decks, but you can use it in radio mode too. I haven't listened to this radio for long enough to really hear it in action, but according to this it's a much more dynamic system than the "screw you, treble!" that Dolby usually gives you in my experience.

One of the few pluses to living in the south. I'm currently prepping to apply POR-15 to the floors as well as seal all leaks, replace the AC evaporator, and properly sound insulate the floors. Unfortunately that means I have to pull up all of the Dynamat that was on there. I'm not happy about how it did absolutely nothing to make the truck quieter but holy crap does this stuff stick. You can still see little patches of the butyl adhesive all over the floor - obviously not good for the POR-15. Also, after searching for what seems like forever I have a new dashboard with 95% less cracks and 100% less destroyed mounting tabs! The color for the new carpet is decided - 8019, aka Mist Grey. It's the closest match to my eyes to the OEM carpet. The camera flash does some weird stuff to it, but in person it's almost indistinguishable from the factory color - what's left of it, anyway. Side note: I expect you guys to hold me to a better standard of photography than the garbage in my last post :D

If the relay clicks it isn't blown. Check for power at the horn. Just to prove the relay is fine, check for continuity across terminals 30 and 87 when pushing the horn button. (assuming it's a regular 5 pin relay)

There's your problem! I know I whine about this a lot but every single Jeep related FB page I know of is filled with the most immature trash I've ever seen, and this isn't just one. At one point I was on at least 5-6 of these pages and they were all filled with that kind of people. Big part of why I haven't logged into my FB account other than to check messages or post stuff on the CC page in months. The rub rails are fine and I'm sure they're top quality as always.

Got my radio from Tim today. VERY fast shipping, it was very well packed and he threw in a printout of the wiring diagrams. Very satisfied with how this transaction turned out... oh, and the radio works :)

I do think we should set up our own photo hosting. Imgur has been worrying me recently, since they're trying to turn from a simple image host into some kind of social media site. I don't think it will be long before they make a move towards the "pay up or the pics are gone" model that Photobucket is doing. Eventually there won't be a free image hosting site. Photobucket has pissed me off, and even if I had the money I wouldn't spend a dime with Photobucket. It never really was all that great to begin with and we could do better for less money methinks. For what it's worth, I would be very willing to chip in towards the bill for this.
