Depends. In either 1989 or 1990 the Laredo was removed and that made the Eliminator the highest trim. They took away most of the neat options after Chrysler took over though, so a "loaded" 91 or 92 MJ is much less loaded than the earlier ones. You couldn't even get power windows on a 91 MJ where up to at least 88 they were optional on Pioneer and up. The Eliminator didn't give you much choice interior wise, it was grey "Luggage fabric" interior only. Laredo gave you the option of grey or maroon in 1988, or maroon or tan in 87 with "Hunter's Plaid" fabric. You also got matching door panels which you didn't on Eliminator. I'd argue that the fanciest factory produced MJ would be a 1987 or 88 4wd Metric Ton Laredo with power windows and locks. Laredo was longbed only, and for a couple of years the Eliminator was 2wd shortbed only. Really, the Eliminator didn't offer much of anything over the Pioneer other than the wingback seats. You could get everything else on a Pioneer, although you'd have to option it up. On Pioneer the best seats you could get were the non-bolster cloth buckets. Being the "sporty" package I would assume the Eliminator also got a thicker front sway bar, but that's just a guess. Source: 1987, 1988, 1991 Jeep dealer brochures.

What Minuit knows about stock Jeep radios
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Here's what my life has become because of this little radio experiment... Oh yeah, and I couldn't resist popping open the DNR radio to see what's inside. Here's the automatic ejection mechanism. -
89 Comanche "Country" LWB restomod project

You're a lucky dog for finding a NOS heater core seal. I've been looking for years! If you don't mind me asking, what product did you use on the floors? Looks great, just weighing my options for when I do my truck in about a month. -
Yep, just imagine it like a long block swap. You'll probably want to just keep all of the Renix ignition system. Cruiser's writeup should have all you need.

Would you imagine that? At first the VFD just shows a dot, but leave it powered on for a couple of minutes and it springs to life. I'm betting caps. Bet it's got a broken tape belt too. -
Driveway Ornament To Daily Driver: 7 Years!
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I wonder why they decided to scrap it. It honestly seemed like it was in awfully good shape to be in the junkyard. Even still had the trim that covers the seat brackets! -
Those mirrors don't look bad at all

Fixing the MJ after an 80+ MPH deer strike

Just goes to show that our little trucks can survive damn near anything  -
That sounds like such an AMC thing to do.

To my extreme surprise, the seller accepted my super lowball offer, so I now own the other AMC tape deck, the 8956001651: Hopefully it works :dunno: -

Completing my collection of AM-FM radios: You've already seen the 3018 in the bottom left, but here I have like new examples of the 56007519 and 8936001568, which as far as I can tell is the Eagle Premier version of the 56002466, which is the AM-FM cousin of the 56002467. Only difference is it doesn't say Jeep on it. -
Not if the radio is set up correctly. In the old days of cutting up a pair of earphones and wrapping the wires around the 371/471 pins, there was some static the amount depending on the model. In some cases, you have to sacrifice AM reception, but the radios I set up have no background noise or static whatsoever. Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk

The wiring from a 91 or 92 XJ with power options is almost totally independent from anything else and makes a pretty easy "lay in" swap. You just need to supply power and ground to the harness in one location, plug in a couple of fusebox taps, and you're good. If it's a 4dr XJ then you need to swap two wires on the driver side switch panel plug. Pretty easy swap, very worthwhile IMO. Once you've done that, keyless entry is just a step away too. I got mine installed the other day. They look nice.

Track bar mounting hole elongated?
Minuit replied to Gene's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, check the bracket to make sure the hole isn't hogged out. On my 89 I think I caught it in time. I have another bracket, from a 99 XJ. PM me if you want it, but judging by the other thread I don't think it will be needed. -
I think your truck's a good expansion joint away from breaking in two.

Make sure the nut on the track bar tie rod end is tight. They can and do become loose. -

Yeah, it's weird. I think GM did it for a while, knowing AMC that's probably where they got the idea from :laughin:- 60 replies
