Here's what my life has become because of this little radio experiment... Oh yeah, and I couldn't resist popping open the DNR radio to see what's inside. Here's the automatic ejection mechanism.

You're a lucky dog for finding a NOS heater core seal. I've been looking for years! If you don't mind me asking, what product did you use on the floors? Looks great, just weighing my options for when I do my truck in about a month.

Yep, just imagine it like a long block swap. You'll probably want to just keep all of the Renix ignition system. Cruiser's writeup should have all you need.

Would you imagine that? At first the VFD just shows a dot, but leave it powered on for a couple of minutes and it springs to life. I'm betting caps. Bet it's got a broken tape belt too.

I wonder why they decided to scrap it. It honestly seemed like it was in awfully good shape to be in the junkyard. Even still had the trim that covers the seat brackets!

To my extreme surprise, the seller accepted my super lowball offer, so I now own the other AMC tape deck, the 8956001651: Hopefully it works :dunno:

Completing my collection of AM-FM radios: You've already seen the 3018 in the bottom left, but here I have like new examples of the 56007519 and 8936001568, which as far as I can tell is the Eagle Premier version of the 56002466, which is the AM-FM cousin of the 56002467. Only difference is it doesn't say Jeep on it.

Not if the radio is set up correctly. In the old days of cutting up a pair of earphones and wrapping the wires around the 371/471 pins, there was some static the amount depending on the model. In some cases, you have to sacrifice AM reception, but the radios I set up have no background noise or static whatsoever. Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk

The wiring from a 91 or 92 XJ with power options is almost totally independent from anything else and makes a pretty easy "lay in" swap. You just need to supply power and ground to the harness in one location, plug in a couple of fusebox taps, and you're good. If it's a 4dr XJ then you need to swap two wires on the driver side switch panel plug. Pretty easy swap, very worthwhile IMO. Once you've done that, keyless entry is just a step away too. I got mine installed the other day. They look nice.

Yeah, check the bracket to make sure the hole isn't hogged out. On my 89 I think I caught it in time. I have another bracket, from a 99 XJ. PM me if you want it, but judging by the other thread I don't think it will be needed.

I think your truck's a good expansion joint away from breaking in two.

Make sure the nut on the track bar tie rod end is tight. They can and do become loose.

Yeah, it's weird. I think GM did it for a while, knowing AMC that's probably where they got the idea from :laughin:

I've owned this truck for a year and a week now. What has changed? Not as much as I'd like, mostly on account of my hectic schedule. This is one of those dreaded low picture updates. The driver side door was becoming gradually more difficult to close, and rather than properly fixing the cracked door striker, I just adjusted it to where the door would close easily. :dunno: I'm sure those AMC nerds among us will recognize these two connectors sticking out of the dash. Or maybe just me. Don't mind the weird wire colors, I had to piece together this harness from 3 different overhead console harnesses because I couldn't find the real thing. That can only mean one thing - I found the elusive AMC tape deck with... electronic tuning... and Dolby!, because I always enjoy having no treble when I listen to my tape cassettes. In all seriousness, finding one of these radios was one of my other Renix era interior white whales (the blue gauge cluster was one, and maroon plaid seat covers are another), and this one is like new. I'm extraordinarily lucky to have it. Not only that, but these work incredibly well with a custom auxiliary input, which happens to be my area of specialty. While we're on the subject of radios, a full set of 4 ohm speakers will cook pretty much all of these AMC radios! They came from the factory with 8 ohm speakers, but I think you'll be okay with just 2 4-ohm front speakers. If I fry my basically brand new radio, you'll know it's not safe. Next up is this truck's minor death wobble. Tightening the $#!& out of the track bar (yep, it was loose because of course it was... the bracket was fine though) improved things drastically, as did replacing the tie rod end at the pitman arm. The steering feels pretty good now, but there's still a tiny hint of a shimmy left. It's now possible to drive this truck faster than 55mph without fear of death, but it's still not perfect. The control arm bushings were pretty crusty and I think I saw a torn grease boot or two, so there's still plenty of things to work on.
