  3. I figured I might as well start a thread here too... VerticalScope, which owns about 90% of the 'big' forums out there, was hacked sometime early this year. They were using a very poor method of encrypting user data and passwords, which meant that the hackers have been able to decrypt passwords. If you have an account on any VS forum, your password is not likely safe. Not a big deal if somebody logs in as you on a forum... But, if you use that password for anything else, it might be, since they have the email associated with it. Forums that you might be part of that are VS: Pirate4x4, JKowners, Yellowbullet, Layitlow, Cumminsforum, Jeepforum, and who knows how many others. VS has offered a few limp-wristed replies to all this, and made some factually incorrect statements about security. So, if you're using any of those forums, go change your passwords. But more importantly, if you use that password anywhere else, change it there. The big problem for me is I use a lot of passwords, and could not remember which ones were used on some of those forums (I do not visit a lot of them often), and thus I am unsure if there is overlap in password usage with other accounts.
  4. This. And who cares if you list your truck for sale there? I'd rather sell to somebody that cared. The whole reason I wound up with the two I have is the guy didn't want to sell them to somebody that would just thrash them or part them out...
  5. I got one windshield out without breaking it once... It was quite time consuming, but it didn't go that badly. I just used a really big Olfa knife to cut the urethane from the inside, while applying gentle pressure. Eventually it popped out. I did have a used one put in my 89 back in the day. I had the wrecker pull it though, they had 3 or 4 good ones and would just move on to another if they broke the first one.
  6. Looking at the arch in those springs, there's no way they're only a 1" lift spring. I'd send them back... And I'd probably ditch the adjustable length shackles too, but that's up to you. My gut feeling is the factory shackle is the 'correct' length for even a 3" lift spring. So maybe go back to normal length shackles and order a 3" lift spring? Which should have less arch than those springs they sold you...
  7. That crimper has some interesting jaw options. I've got a Blue Point one like it (probably comes out of the same Chinese factory), and it only has 4 jaw options. Hmmm.
  8. I'm on a well and septic, I can't really waste water, it just winds up back in the well. :rotfl2: Bathroom ones make more sense. I wish I could get (for reasonable money) the motion activated ones you see in commercial settings.

  10. I operate on a very similar system. However, for optimal efficiency the staffing positions have been consolidated. That is to say that the maid, the butler, and myself are all the same person. Oh, and as said, Samsung fridges are bad news. Also, most of the 'smart' or 'fancy' fridges are bad news. The current trend of french doors is also bad news, lots of sealing problems. Also, touch activated faucets are stupid.
  11. I passed on it. The body was not as clean as I was lead to believe. I also believe there is very little chance that the head was not cracked.
  12. I've honestly never understood the point in the wireless controller. My wired one has a long enough cord that I can use it from the driver's seat, or from anywhere I reasonably would want to be while winching. Maybe I'm getting old, but the newfangled things just don't do a lot for me.

  15. I'm sure you can make a wired version, it's still just a solenoid pack that's running it... You could also buy a cheap wireless controller off Amazon/Ebay and wire that in. One came with the winch for my plow, I think I still have it sitting in the box somewhere...
  16. His site says $219 for an OEM XJ rear shaft, so I'm guessing an MJ version would be a bit more due to length. Seems like he includes everything. He's about $500 for the AA SYE and a basic driveshaft to go with it.

Another interesting anti-theft device is the Grant steering wheel anti-theft dealio. https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/grt-2001/overview/ Basically allows you to remove the steering wheel in a quick disconnect manner, but it requires a key, and there is a blanking cap that goes on in place of the wheel so you can't turn the shaft with a pair of vicegrips or the like. Some gangster type shows the install here, about 7 minutes in he shows how it works: Not the cheapest option between buying it and a Grant wheel, but it will leave the vehicle completely undriveable. Also, unlike a normal quick disconnect wheel, you don't need to take the wheel with you as you can't put it back on without the key.
  20. Without a SYE, if you have the rear yoke out of the tcase it will dump all the ATF. The tcase is actually pressured lubed, there's a gerotor pump in it, so it sprays pretty good when you get up to speed. If you put the yoke back in, it will probably fall out... IMHO, half the advantage of a SYE is you can pull the shaft and not worry about it puking. Hence I'm a fan of them, even though we don't normally 'need' them.

    x2 on USA6x6 being sketchy, but i don't believe Stan (6x6 tj and 6x6 dodge builder) used anything from them, at least on these two builds. he may have used their dropbox on his 6x6 tow rig though. The dodge is on rockwells, which are toploader axles. they came in duece and a half rigs in 6x6 form. the tj has a 2nd tcase (divorce mounted 205) that acts as a drop box. 6x6 TJ build thread: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/jeep-non-hardcore/1055085-urban-assault-tj-zombie-killer-build.html I was thinking of different rigs. USA6x6 had built a Dodge for somebody, and a Wrangler of some sort... That was a hell of a long time ago.

    I honestly still have no idea. At least I can't think of any way you could use it that would work. The arrangement you have pictured is common, like I said earlier, axles that are intended for that use. They differ significantly from conventional single drive axles in that the input pinion is a straight through design with an output yoke on the other end of it. This ensures that the ouput side is rotating the correct way, and is not subject to any differential, biasing, or rotational speed difference.
