  1. Just bought a 1988 Jeep Comanche Chief. This is very similar to the first Comanche I bought when I turned 16. If my wife found out I bought this Comanche, she would think I'm in a mid-life crisis. Can't tell her until I find a new place to sleep. The Comanche seems to be in fairly good shape for its age. Here are my questions: 1. As I begin to make minor repairs, should I seek original parts (when available), high performance parts, or just standard parts available at a local parts store? 2. What can I do to the 4.0 engine within reason to maximize performance? 3. What does the VIN tell me/you about my Comanche: 1JTMR63S8JT077852? My goal is to keep this Comanche as original as possible, but to install simple, easily reversible upgrages like: K & N air filter? 2" suspension lift upgraded stereo system brush guard tint windows 3/8 or 1/2 inch wheel spacers solid, one piece lug nuts headers? LED foglights? Remote entry/start? Rollbar? Rhino line the undercarriage? More specifically, right now, the Comanche needs (please recommend original, performance, or standard): 1. battery cables 2. starter 3. shocks 4. complete tune up 5. brakes 6. lights (LED or original?)   2. hi guys my name is Justen, i have a 1988 jeep comanche 4wd that doesnt have the original motor. i aint afraid to get dirty and tear it apart if i have to. the jeeps motor was swapped out in a day by the guy i bought it from it has a 2003 jeep wrangler 4 cylinder motor in it with an allison transmission, it wants to turn over but i can't get it to start at first it was the positive connectors that were loose i tighten back in and it works i had to jump the battery to get the motor to wanna turn over. i need someone with experience on what to do, i was thinking of finding another 03 wrangler and taking the motor out and just replacing the motor with that one would that be easier? any advice would help me, thank you.

    Noob saying Hi.

    Hi all. Currently own a 2012 gecko rubi and a 2008 4.7 Commander. For some inexplicable reason, I've been bitten by the Comanche bug and am looking to purchase. Quickly discovered that these trucks are kinda scarce. i prefer the long box over the short box but will definitely pull the trigger on anything that's reasonably clean and straight. Am looking for a 4.0 preferably 4x4 and don't care about tranny whether it's auto or manual. What are the known red flags on these rigs and what are the positives? and am I even asking the right questions? Looking forward to learning more about these rigs.
  5. Hello all, I am new to the club and have been looking for a comanche for quite some time now. I have found one that is close and seems to be a good deal except for this picture the owner sent. The owner said the frame has no rust on it, but this looks like frame rust to me. I think its right in the middle under the cab, but as I have never owned a comanche before I do not know enough to make a decision on this. Is it fixable within reason if this really is the only rust? I do have an arc welder but do not know how big of a project this might be and I do not know how important these bars are. Any input is appreciated. I have not gone to see the truck in person yet.
  6. I am looking at buying an '88 Commanche and want to know what all I need to be looking out for when purchasing. What will I be doing with it? The plan is to build a street-able weekend warrior...something along the lines of 5" lift on 35s. I plan to wheel it. What I know about it from the ad and owner so far... It's a 4.0 and runs good 5 speed manual Body is in good shape with no rust spots (highly unlikely, but we'll see) 2 wheel drive Needs minor TLC - rip in seat and turn signals don't work...nothing major Now all of this of course needs to be confirmed, but what do y'all think so far? Is it a good base to start from you think? They're asking for $1,200. Any help in the matter would be appreciated!
