  1. so you are going to switch a tranny just for that? you can change the rear axle to 3.55 and or bigger tires...or put a better muffler...or improve soundproof the cab... no offense but you are trying to kill a fly with a bazooka
  2. Renix era 4.0s are very oily
  3. I think you should always take the head off before attempting to turn a "seized" engine... specially if you have no clue about why it won`t turn...
  4. You are probing the hottest spots in an engine...
  5. Last time i went to a near scrapyard just to see whats new for sale and found beaten up XJ being torn apart for scrap, in this particular place you can get anything for scrap metal price (well a little more than that but you get the idea) i checked the xj to see something i could use and noticed it was a manual, weird, 99.9% of the XJ around here are auto and the only manuals i hace seen are LR2/AX5 so i though meh! but then a saw the badge in the back: 4.0 liter damn, could it be? nope no engine left to salvage, so i asked the owner about it he said engine and tranny were bad but the bellhousing must have been somewhere...and it was so i paid around 10 us dollars and took it home, you never know when you may need a spare... until i took abetter look at it and found something wasn`t right... the tranny pattern was irregular, oh $#!&, a quick goggle check later and turns out it`s a BA10/5 bellhousing... well at least it was cheap.. obviusly i`m not putting a BA10/5 back in my MJ, neither in the ZJ... can it be used with an adapter to another tranny? apparently no one makes adapter for this piece of $#!&.. ideas?
  6. Its the correct type, but it`s a 30 year old thermistor, it`s resistence may fall before it`s supposed so instead of off-on is more like off-dim-on... i noticed back when the cooling system in my MJ was leaking, i saw the light dim and thougt "is it ON or what?" kept driving and a few minutes later the engine began to boil and suprise, the light was fully on...
  7. weird, mine does reverse the flow when turned backwards, i didnpt noticed until i fired it up...
  8. The idiot light is a little "analogue" comes on dim when the engine is about to overheat and fully lit when the engine is cooking...
  9. if it blows the wrong way you can unbolt the fan and turn it around, as long as it doesn`t touch anything...
  10. drop that tranny and leave on the side of the road, get a beaten up XJ for cheap and use its tranny, either AX15 or the AW4 are good...
  11. that`s high enough, remember that a carb uses the intake air speed to draw the fuel, at idle the incoming air is so slow that an extra, smaller venturi is needed to work properly if you keep pumping the pedal it works? mmm then the bowl has fuel and the accel pump works... are you sure the tiny fuel lines are not clogged? if you choke the carb with your hand does it keep running?
  12. When it does idle, at how many rpms?
  13. 87 with an internal slave? must be a pukegoat...
  14. How do you control de ignition? your coil is not connected...
  15. remove the air intake hose and cover the "squareish" hole in one of the corners, see if the rpms go down, if so clean the idle stepper motor, that lil bastard loves to get stuck... or check for any vacuum leaks...
  16. btw how hard is to fit the seats from 2 door XJ? they fold all the way forward and i could use that feature in my MJ...
  17. how much HPs do you expect to get from $2500? in a stock comanche you options are rather limited -Supercharge the 4.0 -Stroke a 4.0, bore the throttle, swap a 91-95 head, put larger inyectors... none of the above is cheap...
  18. yep that 4.0 is damaged, you can get a good one cheap... but keep that one it begs for a rebuilt
  19. your TCU is probably dead but try powering the solenoids manually to see if the tranny shifts fine that way...
  20. 99% chance that it will, take out everything: engine, tranny, Tcase, crossmember, shafts and axles if you you have to so it will bolt right in...
  21. Test it with another good coil before buying a new one...
  22. i think i do it the same in both directions, but while parking in or out i back and forth several times, that`s when the fluid leaks... yes, no leak, only from the bellhousing does it? haha it does gotta fix that, it`s an 88 yes it`s a AX15 internal slave that would explain it but isn`t the slave firmly attached to the tranny? also the input shaft always rotates in the same direction regarless of the gear.... anyway you are right the slave must be shot...
  23. Like 3 weeks ago my MJ suddenly lost all the clutch fluid, at first i thought either the master or slave went south but after filling it up and bleeding it i worked again, after a week, again lost all fluid at once while going backwards, it was working fine until i put it in reverse, again filled it up and worked... yesterday, AGAIN! but only while backing up, see the pattern? while driving forward, i can press and hold the clutch with no problem try to go in reverse, boom the clutch fluid leaks non stop no sign of leakeage anywhere but from the bellhousing so it means the slave is done but why ONLY in reverse? any ideas?
  24. Adding some vents will help, i`m in the process of fabricating a couple for mine...
