  1. it`s an XJ so instead of regearing you COULD swap in a 3.07 axle (trade torque -> max speed) is a bolt on swap which is a pro but manual XJs are not that easy to find, and again you will be downgrading from D44 to D35 not a good option... are you sure that XJ is 100% stock? if so it has the Tow package which means the D44 is like 3.73 or 4.10 which would explain the $#!&ty mileage and the renix sweating to go above 65 but you want better MPGs and go fast? the HO can go fast but it doesn`t do it for free if you could check your current gearing and post it
  2. all years? great, and my bad...
  3. if you put an HO better get the engine+trans combo, your 87 AW4 uses a separate TCU and the HO combines the ECU and TCU in one unit, also there`s the spline count issue long story short, early 0331 heads were faulty, they crack down the middle. latter a brazilian company called TUPY made 0331 heads that were good and have the "TUPY" logo stampep, you want those http://www.tupy.com.br/ingles/produtos/ info here...
  4. a flying comanche? what would rock...
  5. renix ECU "learn"? they don`t even store error codes...
  6. please don`t tell me is a squealing noise...
  7. check the sending unit, problably fell apart in the tank...
  8. your tach died...
  9. the ECU uses all inputs: coolant temp, air temp and (when in closed loop) the O2 sensor signal...
  10. why should it? it`s a car not a steam account haha...
  11. A quick look at the manual says 185 ohm = 212 f and 100,700 ohm = -40 f don`t ground the pin or else the ECU will assume the sensor is faulty, ignore it and use some preset value...
  12. put a potentiometer for more control... mine is disconnected to fool the ECU to think the air is ice cold, it`s supposed to give some ignition advance...
  13. It WILL affect MPGs if you don`t plug the hoses properly, don`t just let them hanging... very soon in CA you won`t be allowed to fart...
  14. never used it, must be because it has never worked... besides winter is not that bad here... thanks
  15. now that my piece of junk is working properly, my next goal is to remove the HVAC box entirely, but before i rip apart the dash there`s something i must know, without the HVAC in place, is it possible to put the dashboard back? or is i
  16. trace it... and just to be sure replace all capacitors, they probalby fail soon after 30 years in service
  17. you sure the MJ has not skipped miles? whatever...
  18. you MJ is way older, probably has twice o more miles on it than your 99 XJ, unless has been rebuit recently, it`s not running at its best, also the 3.07 rear ratio doesn`t help... also don`t use 5th or any overdrive when towing, you put a lor of strain the drive train that way, stick to direct gear...
  19. clean the inyectors? TPS out off adjustment
  20. there`s no point in using synthetic in a transmission...
  21. if i had them... the one it came with the truck... i don`t remember where i put it
  22. when it "dies", have you tested for spark? if not, suspect the CPS of course, OR as you say your ECU may be the problem too, also check the cps voltage right at the ECU, make sure it`s getting the signal... the MAP sensor either works or doesn`t, and even if it doesn`t work the engine will start but run like crap since the ecu can not detect the changes in manifold vacuum, it is unlikely that it will suddenly stop working and the work perfectly again later...
  23. we`ll see, summer here is brutal, if it works here, will work anywhere... it was 32 degrees today and signs of overheating, for the first time since i got the comanche...
  24. it works so whatever...
  25. i don`t like it, it`s heavy and ugly...
