front fender replacement

^^^^this. One of a few ’86-specific problems. I used a ratcheting box wrench. Good Luck! -
92 brake pedald bushing
8valvehero replied to GreasemonkeySC's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If its similar to the pushrod/pedal bushing for the clutch, I used a slightly modified mountain bike shock “DU” bushing. Should be $2 or so at any bike shop. -
I used a heat gun to help massage mine in to place

Shift points for XJ auto? Too low rpm

Check the ratio to see if the rear axle is out of a manual trans vehicle. Running 3.07 on a AW4 would result in this condition -
spare tire "winch driver" for 86 Comanche?
8valvehero replied to johnj92131's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Normal. Just pop it out, soak it in WD or PB and work it loose. -
Eagle is correct: Death Wobble is a generic symptom. I replaced everything under my truck and got DW beause of a sloppy OE steering box and slightly uneven tire wear. Before I replaced everything, it was all clapped out but had no DW. Crawl under there while a buddy quickly turns the steering wheel back and forth a few inches. Take your time to feel every joint and look hard for play. Edit: don't forget about tie rod twist if you have big tires. Good luck!

Instrumentation Cluster Issue

Do Cruiser54’s Renix tips for cleaning up sensors, contacts and wiring of all components associated with the cluster -
If it has a factory skid plate over it, there is probably a bunch of crud in between the skid and tank that has caused the tank to rust through. Remove the skid and inspect. A rusted tank will have to be replaced. Its not a terribly difficult job. Good Luck!

^this. The metal tab just slides sideways in to place

don't forget to check to see if it has a Trac Lok differential, as you will need to add friction modifier. That axle may not be original to the vehicle.

Bummer about the knock on the noggin! Sounds like the upside of being on leave is youre getting paid (albeit less than work wage) to work on your truck. I had wondered if you were a skier/boarder given where you live (I work at Mt Baker). Heal up! 🤘🏿

Because F*%k it, thats why.

Been there! On my first MJ it was totally missing. I made a sandwich with plate steel, grade 8 bolts and some thread taps. Not pretty, but it still works great 4 years later. Full read on page 1 of that thread: https://comancheclub.com/topic/42813-project-sipsey-88-pioneer-long-bed/ Good Luck! 🤘🏿

UV joint disassembly
8valvehero replied to ruralandalone's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ive done several tough ones using only a bench vise and deep sockets. Worse case: get out the grinder. U joints are cheap. Good luck! 🤘🏿 -
I’m sure I deserve a slap for questioning Don, but I thought OE was Delphi. However this would not be the first time that the internet was wrong and Don was totally accurate.

D30s only have inner seals. Rear axles have outer seals. Seals are cheap so buy 2 of each in case you mess one up. Outer seals are available aftermarket to keep mud out of the housing, but there is debate on if theres any benefit. AlloyUSA makes some nice greasable ones. IMO they are not worth the investment on most rigs. A buddy to help stabilize the seal & driver as you hammer it in is very helpful. 🤘🏿

Once I have an extra $200, yes. Great price btw

Been there! Slop in the system creates a poorly functioning clutch situation. This causes the driver to press the pedal with more force contributing to breakage. Check the condition of the pedal-to-pushrod bushing and main pivot bushing, as they are both often overlooked sources of clutch issues. There is one large bolt (pivot axle) that all of the pedals are mounted to. Access is tight. If forced to do it all again, I would probably remove the entire gas/brake/clutch pedal assembly before disassembly.

Welcome! Thats a great looking Sport Ruck. What year is it? How many miles? What was the price? We are all dying to know!

Truck looks like a great find! You can determine if the lights are functioning by performing a ground test. Upgrade to full compliment gauges asap. The cluster from any 87-89 Jeep should be plug & play. Its easy to swap over and keep your existing speedometer/odometer. ✊🏿

Fix that parking brake, Captain Chock Stone! JK- That color looks great! -
They are specific to our trucks. Sadly, I let one go to the scrap yard once before I knew. 😢
