Rear brake load sensing valve question

Level. I messed around with it until I liked it. I run mine with just a bit of extra braking to the back wheels. -
Rear brake load sensing valve question
8valvehero replied to 87MJJeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I made one for a $10 out of some all-thread, threaded eyes and plastic plumbing bushings. The thread lets me adjust the bias, too: -
just get a similar bolt and cut it off to the correct length

Swapped starter, now no power
8valvehero replied to wpnsdog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There's 2 wires that go to the pos terminal. One bolts directly to the starter. The other bolts to the accessory power/relay area directly behind the battery. I bet it's that one. Nothing works without it. -
Ok go through every connector. Starting at the coil, then going to the distributor, plugs, alternator, battery, and every other electronic connector and relay that you can possibly access- check every inch of wiring that you can see. If possible, disconnect them, shine 'em up with a wire brush and plug them back in. At very least, you will find the problem while you are looking at everything else. If everything looks cool, then get a multimeter and start doing some basic tests. It could be something super basic that you'll see immediately like a loose wire on the coil, or something like the crank sensor where you've gotta test it. Just be patient and go through every single thing that you can see. I've had to tape my multimeter to my window and drive around with it hooked up to figure some things out. Good luck!

Did my no-A/C MJ ever have an aux. fan?
8valvehero replied to 8valvehero's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
hmm 2 different answers... Canadian market maybe didnt have the fan? Maybe 4x4 had the fan because they expect you to go offroad? The mystery deepens... -
Howdy gang and thanks for reading! I should preface this by saying that my MJ is an '88 4L ba10/5 2WD that never had A/C installed on it. Where the compressor should be there no accessory, just a simple pulley and bracket. I've been replacing all the missing and broken parts on my MJ (as we all do) and I recently went to install an auxiliary fan and simply could not find the connector on the harness. I double checked on other similar-year Jeeps and they all had the connector at the same spot in the harness- by the driver's headlight main connector under the airbox. These leads me to wonder if I ever had an aux. fan to begin with. I thought all Renix harnesses were the same, with the unused connectors just hanging around. Anyone???? :???: THANKS FOR THE HELP! AC delete bracket:

The sleeper Jeeper STREET COMANCHE #59

welcome, but: :needpics: -
Hey welcome and nice find! This should be fun to watch. Verify your transmission- I've got an '86 4-speed and a '88 5-speed-- I think that 4 speeds got the AX-4, but 5-speeds got the ba10/5 until '89 when they started getting AX-5's. Can any of the great minds of CC confirm that for me? It's super important because they take totally different lubricants. Also one you can thrash and one you have to baby.

UPDATE! Remember how I said that I worked at a ski area? No? You weren't reading? Well I got a 4-day weekend because a monsoon-like rain killed ski conditions for at least a week. This gave me time for projects. My wife's '99 XJ needed a heater core installed on day one, but with that out of the way I could tear in to the flooded XJ "Bess". Bess was purchased recently by my mother-in-law. The vehicle came in to my possession a couple weeks back when her son (my brother-in-law) accidentally drove it off the road and down a levee on a flooded night. It sat in 6ft deep water overnight. I figured I could use some parts off of it, so I paid the tow bill and made it mine. Bess is a '94 HO AW4 4WD right-hand-drive model that was manufactured in the USA for export to Japan, then re-imported for postal use here in the states. Because of this, I find myself unable to use a TON of parts. I can't even salvage a windshield wiper. SO- change of plan. Now if I'm going to get my money's worth out of it, I've got to get in there and save the low-mileage t-case and engine (no plans to attempt to salvage the submarine AW4). When I vacated the cylinders of water and pulled the drain plug a whopping 7.5 GALLONS of fluid came out :laughin: . I'm glad I went for the XL drain pan. I filled her up and put on a fresh filter, then turned it over by hand a dozen times to make sure things were lubed. I also filled up the cylinders with oil to protect the bore walls until I could get in there and assess the situation. The t-case seemed to fare better- with only a little water inside. I should be able to flush & fill a couple times and be alright. Evidence of her export days in Japan: One thing I do have plans to use is the overhead console and speakers: I immediately grabbed up the infamous export-only amber turn signals and installed them on my MJ: I don't know how I feel about these, but they're also OEM export-only: By all accounts, during the crash the motor swamped and died gently rather than seizing in a hydro-lock situation. It rotates easily by hand and there was no shavings in the oil, so I figured I should get in there and see if things looked salvageable. I took the head off (don't worry- I kept the lifters in order) and found that aside from some carbon deposits and mild surface rust from sitting, things looked just fine. It mic's round, there's absolutely no "lip" at the top of the stroke and no pitting of any kind. Looking positive: I guess the plan now is to re-finish the bores with a dingle-hone and replace the rings. I'm probably not going to mess around with any unessential bearings or seals if I can help it. I want to rebuild it totally, but I'm married and on a budget so this'll do. It's better than my 300,000+ mile engine that I'm on now anyway. I've got 97+ intake and exhaust manifolds that I can put on it, then maybe install it running my existing Renix and ba10/5 until my 4WD AW4 91+ swap comes together. Any input from you guys would be appreciated! Thanks for reading! Here's a pic of how my MJ is looking right now: Here's my parts MJ serving temporarily as tool shed ('68 Dodge Van in the background. It's for sale/trade): -

Except it smells like a burning rubber band inside the cab and when I hooked the battery up to check things out, the relay box lit on fire. I doubt RHD wiring harnesses are easy to come by. EDIT- Weird quote box I can't delete -

UPDATE! (having picture problems- will update later with pics) I didn't mention earlier that this thing is RIGHT HAND DRIVE. She was built RHD in America for export to Japan. The cluster is metric and most stickers are in Japanese. She was re-imported to the USA for postal work and did less than 75,000 miles of rural delivery before ending up with me. This complicates things because I can't use anything off the dash, none of the steering gear or most of the accessories. The upside is that there's some neat features that I'll get to later. -

Nice! I love my D44. I kicked things off on the XJ last night (I'll update my thread soon). It's optioned-out with grey leather buckets, wood grain and power everything. I'm not interested in most of the interior (plus I use a bench seat), so you've got first dibs on pieces. -

Project "sipsey": '88 Pioneer Long-Bed
8valvehero replied to 8valvehero's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
UPDATE! I've been away from CC a while. Been busy with work- so not turning wrenches on the truck too much. Sipsey has been mostly a dream. I've been highway and country road driving her daily 15mi to work in town and 45mi up to Mt. Baker Ski Area where I work on the weekends. I discovered my D44 has a Trac-Loc limited-slid diff. in it, so that's cool but I still wanted to finish the project and go 4WD. Enter- this: My brother-in-law sank a '95 XJ Sport (HO, AW4), so I paid the $250 recovery bill to make it mine. My hope is to use pretty much everything that still works to update and go 4WD in my MJ. It didn't run for long in the drink, but it did sit submerged overnight and the interior smells like burned wires. It sank Monday, I picked it up yesterday and work starts tonight with purging water and flush+fill of the motor, trans, t-case and axles. Any input would be appreciated! Wish me luck! -
$700 89 long bed project

Right on. Lee is a great guy with a cool truck and always wiling to help. The shop truck is a funny story- the owner strolled in to the graphics place with an energy drink can in hand as inspiration. :laughin: It's actually all airbrushed w/ no vinyl! Thursdays are a good day to grab a beer. Holla! -

YO! Hey I'm in Bellingham too! I drive a black/red w topper LWB '88 & work at Fanatik Bike Co. on State St. Here's my build thread: http://comancheclub.com/topic/42813-project-sipsey-88-pioneer-long-bed/ I'll shoot you a PM with my phone number. Gimme a shout if you need anything! -
my headliner was a snap. if you get a chance, put jute or insulation of some kind behind it. it really helps with cab noise.

yeah that's it. the cruise-control donor i'm using had a much larger vacuum reservoir

Adjustable MJ Load Sensing Valve
8valvehero replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Hey maybe it's too late but I thought of you when I made this with a $20 trip to ACE: (it's angled up because when I took this pic it had 500lbs of junk in the bed) I used some 1/4"-20 all-thread and threaded eyes with some random plumbing bushings at the bolts that fit snugly. My bolt of choice for most things is 8mm x 1.25. I enlarged the axle bracket hole and threaded it to accept the new hardware size. In the future, I'd ideally rebuild this using the proper spherical ends, but this works well enough for now. I've got about 1/2" of adjustability to control brake bias. Hope this helps!
