when you put the new one in try to rotate it in instead of pushing, in a sense also this is the oil pan gasket to use http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/fel-os34308r/overview/make/jeep

bonkers, how did you verify you have the correct fly wheel? did you visually look at it? or just go by what they said your fly wheel is the only variable that has changed besides the transmission-(which doesnt matter for spark) if you have the ho fly wheel it, the cps will still fluctuate on a multimeter, it is still detects the gaps in the fly wheel it only makes sense that the new fly wheel may not be the one you think it is pulling the trans should take two hours going at a steady pace so its not too much of a setback i think you should verify visually that its the correct one, you can pull your CKS and rubber grommet of and peek through the top to make sure it has the correct shutter spacing this is a HO fly wheel and this is the correct renix fly wheel also, you said you forced the transmission into the cross member? you do realise the AX-15 has its own cross member and you cannot use the ba10 cross member right? the ax 15 x member mounts about 1-1.5" further back. if your drive shaft doesnt fit and is bottomed out, DO NOT PUT A PRELOAD ON IT, you will blow your transfercase apart, Are you doing a 4wd conversion? that would make the drive shaft too long let us know what you find out, i don't think its a dizzy/timing issue, my dizzy bearing was almost completely gone and it still ran and produced spark

testing the new smaller tires down an old mining road, sorry for the photo shoot :P
-
super simple 1. need 4wd automatic or standard transmission, and ofcourse the transfercase to go with it 2. need a front axle, dana 30 is the bolt in mod obviously 3.need a front drive shaft 4. need the tcase shifter linkage assembly 5. need your rear drive shaft shortened toss it all in, and away you go did the 4wd conversion on my third comanche didnt take long at all only real specific tool needed is the torx e-12 (external torx) socket for the top two transmission bolts

i know its not the most ideal way of doing it, had to pull parts off a cherokee in a storage compound once, everything was locked, so i crawled under and pushed/pulled the two latch release rods and the hood popped back up we have a mexican fellow where i live, ive told himi his hood is open (two years ago, to this day i still see that cherokee bombing down the roads with only the latch catch holding the hood down) maybe thats why he never closes it

Adjustable control arms and 35s
MancheKid86 replied to Jackrabbit41's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ive ran 35's on 3.55 gearing, it got great fuel economy but any off roading was in low gear i never really broke any thing with a dana 30 for that setup upgrade to the grand cherokee tie rod, or else its going to fold like a taco -
ive had this happen to me as well, doing like 105mph XD i had to learn how to rev match in a hurry

diggin the build, it has defiantly grown a bit! you should slap in an onboard air system via stock a/c compressor! and toss some tanks in, then you can air down when ever, and trust me it comes in handy, air tools in the bush is nice rockin a mj and subaru as well hey? i want to do a turbo swap on mine to snag a bit more power out of it, but no where to do a dyno retune after -
added myself, i just pinned it by city and it actually put a pin exactly where i live! hahaha seems like I'm the closest to the us/Canada boarder
-
technically this doesnt count since it was the weekend before but ima do it anyways! took me to thunder mountain raceway to their opening of a private orv park
-
overall yes, i had to cut the old carrier apart to get the locker out the openings to where the lunchbox went were too mushroomed over to allow for the lunch box to nicely exit one of the cups that house the end of the shafts from hitting the cross pin have a bit of the shoulder missing but otherwise no issues have it installed into a new carrier and waiting till i bring him one of my spare gear sets to shim up into the axle

here is a good example of why you shouldn't let your rig have excessive wheelspin! friends rig 91 xj 5.5" short arm 4.0l/aw4 combo open 8.8 rear locked, trussed hp dana 30 35' tires my friend took his rig out to a orv park thats just opened up for private club events only first obstacle he got high centered and just gave er! way too much wheel spin he ended up snapping his front axle shaft, so i went to my shop and grabbed him my cherokee's spare set upon pulling his drivers shaft, it was apparent that it wasn't a simple trail fix his shaft was snapped into three pieces, one of which was still in the carrier and wasnt coming out this weekend i had time to tear the axle apart to get the rest of his shaft out and this is what i found snapped shaft, destroyed carrier, pinion gear and blown axle seal so now i get the joy of rebuilding his front axle and upgrading his shafts to the newer bigger ujoint style choose your pedal wisely, it took him two years of abuse to do it, but it will fail eventually, his splines were literally twisted alomst two splines over

time to unload some more photos! ive taken my rig out a few times this year and am chasing things as i go! i managed to do one of my two annual whipsaw trips this year, was just too busy to do the second! first few photos are last min prep for whipsaw, welding my bumper back together, first time using stick at this point I'm a grinder and not a welder, but with more practice id like to get better here's some shots of part of my winch rebuild, no wonder i wasnt pulling the full 9000lbs, at this time i replaced all 4 relays as well i mounted the bumper and winch up, re ran all my air lines off the compressor, then cleaned a few things up here's a shot at the relay center i wired in quickly for all my auxillary stuff, the wiring i was replacing was horrendous, lots of but splices and termanted wires fog lights, onboard air and aux cooling fan, cleaned up and sheilded the wires after here was a test drive down the road for the first time in 7 months, too Lordco the next set of photos are from my thunder mountain trip! which was a blast and a side by side shot of my cherokee and comanche! https://www.facebook.com/matt.dows.1/videos/10153401060808089 https://www.facebook.com/matt.dows.1/videos/10153401055083089 here's a few from my camping trip, i need a film crew because i don't take photos of everything i crawled so these are the only two i got the rest is all from whipsaw and a few misc photos, again i did all the fun stuff trying to catch up to my group so not too many action shots https://www.facebook.com/devon.lepey/videos/982392481782702

MancheKid86 replied to Jackrabbit41's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
nice rig! i remember my first car, which was a comanche, lots of time spent wrenching ! i recommend running some shielding on all your custom wires, don't want them to ground out! should come do some wheeling up here in canada some time! I'm on the other side of the boarder in osoyoos -
transmission installation guide pins
MancheKid86 replied to teamsmith's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Good idea on the alignment spikes! When I pull my ax-15 to do the bearings and synchros I'll try this, I usually run a bar across my trans tunnel and use 3 ratchet straps to raise and align the transmission, 10" of lift and 40's mean you have to bench it pretty high The two methods combined should work slick! -

wrong part of the forum sir, should be in tech help, make sure your distributor is re indexed, cruiser 54 has a great writeup -
figured id start a build thread for my spare parts rig, i bought it almost two years ago for spare parts, amd then i tried to sell it and no one wanted it. i had alot of spare parts lying around from my white comanche after it ran me over (i know, how does that happen right?) they were taking up space and so was it, at that point i decided why not build a super cheap rig? having lots of parts lying around means total build cost is going to be fairly low. specs 1990 jeep cherokee laredo power everything, and side vents pm the windows 4.0L 4x4 aw4/242 combo d30 non disco and a turdy five in the rear things i have done so far, 4.0L replacement, installed 4.5" lift kit bastard pack rear for the time being 35" tires total build cost to date is $184 for bastard packs engine mounts and fuel pump strainer things to finish it solder tps controler wires back to the the harness reinstall fuel pump fill full of gas turn the key optional things being done at this point onboard air with a stock a/c pump rock sliders hack n tap sye with grand chero front d/s have about 4 or 5 casual days of wrenching put into this so far it in its stocker form the dissecting started engine out, front lift kit in new engine in out side of the shop new that the power plant swap is done started to lift/mock the rear and here she is at final ride height once i fire the cherokee up ill go over the whole thing and make sure everything is tight this will be nice for a mild wheeler, where i can take my dogs up with me, and even more than one passenger that way i can leave my mj for the hardcore stuff will post more when i have more done, i work on it one day every month or so since its at my shop in a different town

sucks that you got sold a lemon, split the cases and swap the output shafts with one another, and keep the lemon as parts and/or use the other 242 planetary as a crawl box!
