check if it's even connected. it's reeeeeal easy to knock off one of the wires (it was a halfass fix for complaints about a loud fuel pump) if the wires are on and corrosion-free, then check for cracks or other damage.

someone remind me if renix engines have a camshaft sensor. I was talking to a mechanic a while back who swore that most long crank times for old Jeeps was due to a failing camshaft sensor.

check the fuel pump resistor (3" whitish ceramic block with 2 wires coming out of it on the drivers side of the engine bay). power is routed straight to the pump during cranking and then diverted to run through the resistor a second later to lower the voltage at the pump and quiet it down a tad.

my newest thought was to replace the glass with a sheet of metal and then cut a rectangle hole in it for the door, rather than a weird trapezoid that covers the whole hole. but a lot depends on if I custom make everything or buy some prefabbed door assemblies from something.

visibility is a concern. I'll definitely "look" into it before removing the glass. I'll be back in michigan in a few weeks and will run the idea by him. a 2door would give him easier access (he's had some major spine surgury) but a 4door allows access to the back area. (rear seats are gone either way)

a minute? how long exactly? is it closer to a few seconds or does it run steady for a minute?

had an idea for my uncle's hypothetical cherokee build of removing the rear windows and building some doors for that space instead. It would be a hunting rig with a big swing-out rear tire carrier and I figured that would make it a pain in the butt to retrieve every little thing. so what about putting in doors like on the sides of some truck toppers? then he could grab smaller things quite easily. side benefit that the glass can't break if it's not there. thoughts? eventually my searches found someone that did it to the back window of a 4door.

I've seen other instances where some idiot has used a random photo they found on the internet to hock their cheesy wares (I think it was on ebay?) and they used a CC member's truck. I'm just saying I can't imagine doing such a thing. everything I've done for almost 20 years now is for the betterment of this place and the preservation of the information it contains. that's not going to change.

all I want is for future generations of owners to see the pics that are in your posts, in your posts. nothing more. I literally can't imagine why I would ever want "ownership" beyond the preservation of the collective knowledge. but you bring up a good point about continuing that on should I get hit by a meteor. I'll look into that.

after the debacle with photobucket, we're taking on an ambitious plan of downloading/shrinking/saving every photo on the CC to guard against future greedy-corporation issues. I'm also experimenting with the mass-email feature now that we've eliminated about 12000 old spam accounts, so expect one of those in the near future. how this affects you: now's the time to fix any dead links in your project or tech threads. any photo link that still points to a real photo will be saved and the link replaced with one of ours from CC. this will all happen in the background and there should be minimal if any hiccups in the forum. any questions?

they were some hard miles though. seems every body panel had something wrong with it. even the tailgate (which I snagged anyway )

if the XJ in question is a 2dr with a trashed black interior, it's a dana 35. in 86? nah. cloth and vinyl.

I've got the seats out of that XJ the front shaft will technically work, but I highly suggest an 87+ because before the 84-86 shafts were puny. the t-case is likely a 21 spline np-207. also not desirable. the front axle might have some decent gears though. or it may not. lots of weird gear ratios were used in 86. only way to know for sure is to pull the cover and count teeth. car-part.com can also help with junkyard searches. also check craigslist. be wary of Jeeps that seem too good to be true.

sounds like a good excuse for a trip to the junkyard! I'd image there are other trucks with an appropriate mechanism that can be adapted.

that's your vacuum reservoir. usually it mounts inside the front bumper on the pass side. but you can put it anywhere you'd like.
