    does the trans shift ok with the engine off? and for what it's worth, I've driven home without the clutch pedal. it's not fun, but very possible. it involves turning the truck off at each complete stop and using the starter motor to get the truck moving again. then it's just a matter of matching rpms to shift cleanly. it's not advised to try it in stop-n- go rush hour traffic though.

    windshield leaks are way-common. a latemodel XJ windshield gasket is a good upgrade.

    what gearing do you have now? if you skim through the epic tech forum, you'll find Mkyboy's supercharged 2.5L build.

    the link in my signature should have a link to Jeep's website. you'll need your VIN. but take the info you get from them with a grain of salt though, as some codes were reused over the years by Chrysler and so it may say some weird things like "longhorn package" when that actually applies to a newer Ram pickups and not an MJ. :)

    I replaced mine with individual stainless steel bolts and fender washers.

    rebuild, as in what? replacing bearings, balljoints and tie-rods? brakes too? suspension?

    it is in the tank. keep in mind that it could be a lack of power or a lack of ground. do the rear lights work? one of the easiest things to check is the pump grounding location behind the drivers side taillight. there's also a connector right behind the drivers side rear tire that can get corrosion inside.

    playing around with 4" circles. I think they look about right.

    no individual part lasts forever, but there are trucks still on the road with over 400k or even 500k miles. some still rocking the original block and trans.

    gearing is your best bang for the buck. what size tires do you have?

    sorry, but we don't yet have the software in place to auto-shrink the avatar pics. you'll need to shrink it via other means. I think the limit is 150x150 pixels. as to signatures, basic info about your truck is always a plus. year, engine, transmission, etc.

    wouldn't the o2 sensor come in to play if it was running rich due to another reason?

    the 4.0 and 2.5 do not share transmission bolt patterns. the firewall of the 86 has been clearanced by some guys with a large hammer. plus some of the late year 86s have the newer firewall already. it's the upper radiator mount and hood latch locations that are the real pain to swap.

    oh, and I re-attacked the pinch seal in the front wheelwells. tires aren't getting chewed up anymore. I'm glad the rims came with crappy tires of the size I want since it has shown that I can't get new tires until after the lift is on.

    the next phase in bumper build has happened. swapped out the stubby winch mount for a wider one (should have done that from the start) and mounted the light bar on it. this is about as far as I can go without welding. I also swapped out some of the winch electrical hardware with stainless since the OE crap had already started rusting. oh, and I hit the grille with some satin black.

    very nice! I love a chrome grille chrome mirrors exist too and you can snag chrome drip rails from an XJ and cut to size if you want to add a couple more bits of bling.
