  1. I need some pics of whatever on earth he's talking about. something is amiss.
  2. pretty sure the gauges work on different ohm ranges.
  3. but... why? did the cable seize up and he didn't want to buy another and also had a spare 91+ cluster lying around?
  4. did you read the threads in the link in my sig? I'm pretty sure they mention using the other holes. and if not, we need to rectify that.
  5. how did he do an electric speedometer without custom wiring? 84-90 were all cabled, 91-96 are all wired. that sounds like a ton of unnecessary work.
  6. of course they do. 87-90 clusters go right in. If he has an electronic Speedo, does he have a 91-96? because that cluster as a whole is not compatible. also the odo can be adjusted on a cluster so there's no need to keep your old stuff.
  7. I've seen several repaints of Colorado Red that look a bit too... vibrant. way more eye-popping of a shade than my stock 88. did something change at some point in time either in the codes or the shade of the color?
  8. now THAT'S some useful info
  9. steering linkages generally fail because people run into things and that little bar up front isn't going to stop a whole Jeep. if the steering bends, then knuckles are saved from damage. if the steering doesn't bend, well... something has to give. when I was researching my Uncles XJ build, I found a company that makes aluminum bars that can bend but snap back to position. several more companies have stepped up since then. here's an example of that:
  10. well, that beats my 20 bucks plus a grilled cheese sandwich...

    New car questions

I rented one of those in Colorado to camp in. completely sparse in the back and made more noise at highway speeds than the radio could comfortably overcome. but it was kinda fun to drive.

    New car questions

that brings up a funny. my cousin does parts runs for one job and drives up to 8 hours some days (along with a few other people). his boss bought a newish van to replace one that was in an accident and... it doesn't have cruise. no one in the company wants to drive the new van. no one. even the 700,000 mile one with the scratchy radio is preferred.

    New car questions

does anyone buy this weirdness? My cousin bought a Dodge Tradesman and it has a lot of goodies for what he thought was a "basic work truck".

    New car questions

and as promised, I'm shocked! that level of thing is stupid cheap. my Liberty has a basic factory alarm that you can defeat (audibly at least) by reaching under the bumper and unplugging the horns before you smash the window and open the door

    New car questions

I don't know the answer for sure, but I cannot fathom a car being built in this day and age without at least a basic "smart" keyfob.
  16. the link in my signature has a thread with the factory method for measuring height.
  17. I would start with refreshing all the grounds.
  18. If you're looking for more performance, the hands-down best bang for the buck is gearing.
  19. there are way more codes than that, but this is all Chrysler has in their computers. the older the MJ (meaning the AMC years), the less info we get back. the later ones (the Chrysler years) have a muuuuuch longer list.
  20. all I know is I've been trying to find a vin tag in the back half of an MJ (i.e. my trailer) for a couple years now and failed.
  21. what did they say about it? I mean, this is the header they recommend for this engine and this truck, right?
  22. you'll be fine. but always have a backup plan or 2, just in case.
  23. don't kid yourselves, they have a bad rap for a reason. I've had 22 years of hearing of other peoples' woes. A higher percentage of them fail than the other transmissions you can run. does that mean any particular one will go in the next month, or even year? of course not. all I ever say is to be prepared and drive like a sane person. mine lost 5th gear (best guess since it was no longer available) and blew a hole out the side of the case while I was just tooling along in freeway traffic. 2wd on 30" tires. still got me home though! gear oil is overrated! (though I did need to stick a finger in my right ear because the whine became deafening).
  24. the novak headers for an chevy swap don't fit? have you confirmed they are the right part number?
