  1. every single gap or opening in the cab has leaked for some poor soul at some point in time. they should ALL be inspected and renewed. I once had a windshield leak in my 86 that dribbled down inside the A-pillar before trickling out at the floor.
  2. that's smart. don't forget to check the HVAC seal and windshield too.
  3. looks fantastic! did you ever find the water leak?

  5. you'll need a shorter rear driveshaft
  6. yes. the hood didn't change when the fascia and fenders did.
  7. car-part.com and be sure to search for various years of XJ since the site lists strictly by part number and those might change over time. don't forget you'll want the crossmember/mount and shifter handle/tower too.
  8. I've been giving some real thought to getting the tank down from the attic. but then I remember how hard it is to get the humidity out of a house in Georgia in summer and hesitate adding more in.
  9. I fix other peoples' cars and houses too.
  10. this little lady passed through the backyard today
  11. also be sure to replace the upper 2 bellhousing bolts with grade 8 studs to help with alignment during re-installation.
  12. I'd never pulled a trans in my life and then jumped into building my truck. it's all about doing your research, following the steps, and planning on things going wrong (aka: having extra time and money available for when a part won't fit or a bolt snaps).
  13. you will then need your current rear shaft shortened or replaced
  14. my old peugeot would act up when the level dropped, but I had a slow leak out the rear seal. Every now and again it'd shift funny and I'd top it off and it'd be fine again. according to his sig the truck is 2wd. car-part.com should be able to find ya something.
  15. how's your gear oil level? honestly, I would start shopping around for an AX-15... just in case.
  16. 'bout time
  17. yes

cheap and easy. bonus points if you have an airtight screw on lid for the bucket. super bonus if you get a Home Depot bucket you can also use it as an orange emergency cone if you're stuck on the side of the road. (just don't do both uses at the same time)
  19. then don't. protect what you have.

when your truck really isn't a pickup anymore, the hitch racks can be a real lifesaver (note that this is one week into my 3 week adventure and the zipper on that "waterproof" rack bag had already failed )
  21. welcome to the addiction!
  22. some days my genius knows no limits. so I've been fighting with my bent tailgate on my bent bed for years now (push in with your body weight and yank hard on the handle at just the right time) and today it finally dawned on me I can just nip off the end of the latches. now it's a one-handed operation.
