are you talking about the rubber belt line trim? there's a guy in the venders section of the classifieds that is reproducing them.

trying to go through my stockpile and refurb them for selling. It's easy enough to do a quickie test of gauges by installing them in the truck for a hot second, but every single LED has a 50-50 shot at being backwards and I'd rather work through all that in the comfort of the A/C in the house all this comfort is brought to me by this little guy. what a fabulous invention!

you can swap 84-87 with 87-90 by keeping the old clip style from your old cluster and putting it on the new one. but 87-90 are waaaaay more common to find in 6cyl (which is important to have an accurate tach). the tach in most clusters is technically adjustable, but it's a pain in the butt (it's a little pot on the backside of the guage) and I'm not even sure if all years can do that. every one that I've opened up can be tweaked, but I've heard not all can.

all cable through 90. though 84 to early 87 had a slightly different clip style for the cable.

88 was peugeot for sure. march of 89 was the changeover

that is also on my list, but for later. I'll be using my right hand drive cluster and trim. maybe a radio too!

holy crap! I just noticed they are numbered on the connector! now I don't need to rely on my counting skills. safer that way for sure.

technically the harness side but I can figure it out from there. the goal is to simplify my life by using a junkyard connector to power up a cluster and check for LED polarity correctness. it's a serious pain in the butt to do that in the truck or one LED at a time when you're doing 7 or 8 clusters worth.

my googling has left me frustrated.

did you read the threads in the link in my sig? I'm pretty sure they mention using the other holes. and if not, we need to rectify that.

how did he do an electric speedometer without custom wiring? 84-90 were all cabled, 91-96 are all wired. that sounds like a ton of unnecessary work.

of course they do. 87-90 clusters go right in. If he has an electronic Speedo, does he have a 91-96? because that cluster as a whole is not compatible. also the odo can be adjusted on a cluster so there's no need to keep your old stuff.

I've seen several repaints of Colorado Red that look a bit too... vibrant. way more eye-popping of a shade than my stock 88. did something change at some point in time either in the codes or the shade of the color?

now THAT'S some useful info

steering linkages generally fail because people run into things and that little bar up front isn't going to stop a whole Jeep. if the steering bends, then knuckles are saved from damage. if the steering doesn't bend, well... something has to give. when I was researching my Uncles XJ build, I found a company that makes aluminum bars that can bend but snap back to position. several more companies have stepped up since then. here's an example of that:
