Renix Eagle?

Recommended Posts

We were looking under the hood of my Eagle and saw the Renix diagnostic ports. Does anyone here know anything about these? Would my REM work in it? I wound guess that it would, but I have no clue why the port is there.

Those are the same ports I have on Chunk. I have no idea if the ECUs can even be read anymore. They are probably more lost to time than Renix is. There’s nothing about such on the Eagle forums?

I haven’t seen anything, but I haven’t done a ton of checking.

Don't know about RENIX, but what about the transmission (TCU) stuff? Transfer case (TC) stuff?

I never considered that. Although, I’m not sure what kind of readings it would get about either.

See this is what I think when I see 84-86 2.5L carb stuff. AMC used Fords duraspark module to fire the coil and spark the plugs. I’m almost wondering if it’s just old Ford stuff.

I know the current ignition system on the Eagle is FoMoCo (getting replaced with an HEI) and I will be installing a Motorcraft carb that is considered an upgrade.

The Renix computer outputs a serial bitstream that you can read all about on NickInTime's website.  Given the data is significantly different between the 4.0 and 2.5 and the pinout of the diagnostic connector is even different, I very much doubt this application shares any similarities to either.  It's simply a universal diagnostic connector that AMC used likely without any standardization.

Gotcha. I wasn’t sure if it was a Renix only port.

It's for the ET501 tester to plug in. Pretty much worthless as a diagnostic tool.

Or maybe the MS1700 tool. Equally useless.

Alright. I will just ignore the ports then.

Maybe @NickInTimeFilms would have some input on this?  He's probably done more research on the Renix system than anyone else.

I can't comment on the specifics of the eagle tech, but I know it says Jeep/Eagle all over my DRB II and MS1700 Cartridges. If there IS any amount of data stream coming out of there, I'd think there would be a good chance AMC at least kept that pin the same on the 15 pin block.

One of these days when I can find a proper test subject, I'd love to dig into the Eagle and Alliance streams to see what is actually in there. Or if I can ever find out how to download the info directly from these cartridges then I could see what can truly be compatible. If it doesn't have an electronic fuel injection system on it, I wouldn't count on anything fun though.

if there´s no Renix computer on the Eagle, then nothing can come out of that port

This is kinda what I figured, I just didn’t know why it was there.

If you are ever up in WI, you could play with mine.
