Jeep officially announces new pickup

Recommended Posts

Just read a news article that said Jeep is officially adding a pickup to the line up. No details, but I'd bet they'll do the wrangler truck. I kinda dig the Comanche concept.

Jeep gets a pickup truck and here's how it could look

This is like deja vu for about the last 5 years.

Right. Ha. This time is legitimate, or at least as legit as possible. The Mules have been spotted.

Rumor has a Grand Wagoneer following 1 year behind the truck and on the same chassis

I can't tell is that true speculation or just sass.

It was announced on local TV that the Grand Wagoneer is in the works.

If they build this I would be first in line.

This would be such an easy production mod on the JKU as they did with the prototype shown.

It is amazing how well they copied the old Wagoneer style, and that it actually fits.

I'll believe it when i see it on a dealership. They teased us with prototypes of it and the "comanche" in Moab. Until then....its just a design

The Wagoneers from what Ive read will be on a Ram 1500 platform and built in a plant that's already set up for Rams. This would be awesome, have a competitor to the GM full size Tahoe and Suburban.

Might even bring back a Ramcharger if it's on the Ram platform. Fun fact, they sold a 3rd gen Ramcharger in Canada, up to 2002. Good luck actually finding one though.

Canada has always had great variations of cars and trucks that looked different than our domestic stuff, especially the 60's-80's GM vehicles. The trim to me always looked better than the American vehicles. I remember my Dad bought a truck like the below when we lived in VT close to the border when I was a kid. He loved Mercurys.

To our Canadian members: Do you still see any Mercury pickups running around up there?

They're becoming more popular in the classic truck crowd, I think something about being different. There was one I saw on the road a couple times a week this summer, all done up in red and black as though it had just been restored or at least repainted, and I see the odd one go up on local (well, local to me is about 300 miles, lol) classifieds every so often.

Well, I guess it's my job to be the resident contrarian. I certainly agree that Jeep needs to be making a pickup again. A pickup based on the Wrangler? No way. Ugly, stupid, and impractical. I'm not even a little bit interested. And, given that it's based on the obscenely over-priced Wrangler, we can also be assured that the new PU will be obscenely over-priced.

100% agree. When people talk about a modern day Wrangler truck, I don't imagine it being an actual useful-for-work truck, I imagine it being more like this:

Cheap bastids. You have to be very sick if you don't love this. Not a "work" truck by any means, but who buys trucks for work now anyhow? Maybe 10% max of the total?

I agree though about the proposed 4DR JK truck. That is ugly maximus.

For what it's worth, I'm currently a chrysler dealer tech, one of the other techs has a friend who has personally worked on the wrangler truck but of course he won't say a damn thing. something about not wanting to risk his job? hahah.

The strategy of overpricing the Wrangler seems to have worked quite well though.  There's millions of them here.  My hand gets sore from all the waving.
